Condors Score Five in the First but Fall to Phoenix, 7-5

8,895 Fans Come to The Nest for Teddy Bear Toss

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors lost to the Phoenix RoadRunners Saturday night, 7-5, in front of 8,895, the second largest crowd in Condors history, at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. The Condors scored five goals in the first period, but dropped the game as Phoenix forward Peder Skinner capped the RoadRunners' comeback with two third period goals.

Although the RoadRunners (6-8-0, 12 points) got on the board first with an early goal from forward Chris Stevens just 1:47 into the game, the Condors (4-9-3, 11 points) wasted little time in responding. Condors center Tim Konsorada tied the game and induced the storm of teddy bears from the stands with his seventh tally of the season at the 6:40 mark of the first. After a brief hiatus to clear the ice of the stuffed animals, Konsorada struck again just 39 seconds of game time later to put Bakersfield up, 2-1. The Condors proved to be far from finished in the first, jumping out to a 5-1 lead thanks to two goals from forward Brett Lutes and one from forward Justin Chwedoruk. Phoenix was able to regroup with 3:11 remaining in the first, and began to inch closer with a power-play goal from defenseman Brian Yandle to make the score 5-2.

The RoadRunners went back on the power play early in the second period and were able to capitalize on the man-advantage, as Phoenix forward Jeff Kyrzakos slapped a loose puck in front of the net past Condor goalie Jamie Hodson for the score, narrowing the Bakersfield lead to 5-3. The Condors' lead continued to shrink in the second when Phoenix forward Dave Pszenyczny wristed a shot home from just inside the point with 1:42 left before the second intermission.

The RoadRunners managed to come all the way back to tie the game and then take the lead in the third, as Skinner netted back-to-back goals for Phoenix, making the score 6-5 with 6:34 to go in the final stanza. The finishing touches were then put on the Phoenix win with an empty net goal by Thatcher Bell to make the score 7-5.

Notes: The attendance mark of 8,895 tonight is the second-highest single-game attendance mark in Condors history and the highest-attended Teddy Bear Toss ever in Bakersfield. The five Condors goals in the first period are the most goals scored in a single period for Bakersfield this season. Andrew Ianiero scored his 50th goal in a Condors jersey last game against the Las Vegas Wranglers.

The Condors now hit the road for two games against the Las Vegas Wranglers and Fresno Falcons before heading back home to host the Falcons on Dec. 1. Bakersfield will play the Wranglers in Vegas on Tuesday Nov. 27 at 7:05 p.m., and will take on the Falcons in Fresno on Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast live on the All-New KGEO AM1230 and streamed live on www.bakersfieldcondors.com.
