Truelson, Basiuk Pace Condors in Loss to Vegas

St. Jacques extends home point streak to ten games in defeat

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Mike Hofstrand’s end-to-end goal late in the third period tied the game  at 4-4 before Marco Peluso’s eventual game-winner 25 seconds later pushed the Las Vegas Wranglers to a 6-4 win over the Bakersfield Condors in front of 5,799 fans at the Rabobank Arena.

The Condors struck first when Scott Basiuk threw the puck on net early in the first period.  Basiuk saw daylight through several bodies in front of the net and put a wrist shot past Las Vegas netminder Marc Magliarditi.  Brian Collins recorded his first point with Bakersfield on the assist to put the Condors up 1-0 just 2:36 into the game.

The Wranglers answered back thanks to a skilled stickhandling effort by Matt Dzieduszycki, who threw the puck toward the net from the base of the far circle.  Todd Alexander camped out in front of Ryan Munce and sent the puck into the net to tie the game at 1-1 with 5:36 left in the first period.

Chris Stanley buried a hard slap shot under the crossbar over Munce’s right shoulder to give the Wranglers a 2-1 lead just 1:41 into the second frame.  The Condors answered back just three minutes later as Kevin St. Jacques lifted the puck past Magliarditi’s right side to knot the game up at 2-2.

The teams traded goals again as Adam Pardy led an odd-man rush.  Oriel McHugh threw himself onto the surface to block a centering feed to Sean O’Connor, but Pardy displayed an effective patience as he deked past the outstretched McHugh and tapped the puck to O’Connor who finished off the charge to give Las Vegas a 3-1 lead with 5:36 remaining until the second intermission.

The Condors returned the message with 2:02 left in the second when Andrew Ianiero pushed a pass from the corner to Kevin Truelson, who fired a quick wrist shot inside the near post to push the game at a 3-3 deadlock heading into the third period.

The goal exchange continued into the third period as Bakersfield followed a Matt Dzieduszycki goal with a breakaway by Mike Hofstrand, tying the game at 4-4 with 7:40 left in the game.

From there, the Wranglers picked up the pace, crashing the net and flustering Munce.  With 5:13 remaining, Marco Peluso lifted a loose puck over Munce from the top of the crease to give Las Vegas a 5-4 lead.  Sean O’Connor added an insurance goal with under two minutes left as the Wranglers picked up the victory.

Marc Magliarditi earned the win, stopping 29 of 33 Bakersfield shots.  Ryan Munce was credited with the loss despite making 41 saves on 47 Wrangler chances.

Other notes: Sean Venedam’s seven game point streak came to an end this evening.  Basiuk’s goal was his second of the season and his first October 28th at Alaska.  St. Jacques matched a season-high with goals in three straight games.

Next The Condors open a four game road trip tomorrow when they visit the Stockton Thunder tomorrow at noon before a three game road trip this week in Boise against the Idaho Steelheads.  Bakersfield returns home on Wednesday, February 15th against San Diego for Valentine’s Day Part II and High School/College ID Night sponsored by WB-12 and 106.1 KRAB Radio.

Individual game tickets are on sale now and may be purchased through the Rabobank Arena box office, which is open 10am – 6pm Monday through Friday and 10am – 4pm on Saturdays with extended hours on game days.  Tickets may also be purchased by phone at 322-2525, online at www.bakersfieldcondors.com, or at any Ticketmaster location.
