Condors Comeback falls short

Condors Comeback falls short
Wrap up road trip in Stockton tomorrow

Stockton, Calif. – A third period comeback by the Bakersfield Condors (4-5-0-0, 8pts) was thwarted by the Stockton Thunder (4-1-1-1, 10pts) as the Condors fell 4-2 in front of 9,015 fans on Saturday night at Stockton Arena.

The Condors were energized right out of the gate in the first period, but were stymied on some early chances by Thunder G Bryan Pitton. Condors netminder Josh Tordjman did his job as well, as he turned aside all 14 Thunder shots in the first period. RW Erick Lizon made a statement when he dropped the gloves late in the period with D Ryan Constant. The two squads skated to a 0-0 score after one period of play.

Late in the second period, Stockton would break the scoreless tie. C Chris D’Alvise curled around the net to get his own rebound and knocked the loose puck past Tordjman. The goal was scored with just 3:36 left in the middle frame.

After Bakersfield killed off a 5-on-3 penalty, RW Carter Smith hopped out of the penalty box and put the Condors on the board at the 11:05 mark of the period. Stockton answered with two goals, one of them shorthanded, to gain a two goal lead. RW Stephane Goulet made things interesting by notching a goal off a nice feed from RW Vladimir Nikiforov with the goalie pulled to bring the Condors within 1, but it would not be enough as D’Alvise secured his hat trick with and empty net goal with just one second left on the clock.
