Condors sweep Stockton in three game series

Bakersfield, Calif.The Condors capped off a stretch where they played six of seven games at home last week, defeating the Stockton Thunder once on the road and twice at home to compile a 3-0-0-0 record last week, bringing their home record to 4-2-0-0 over the past two weeks. The Condors now have 61 points this season, and are currently sixth in the Western Conference. Only 9 points separate the top six seeds in the conference.

Condors 5 vs. STOCKTON 3

The Condors surrended two goals in the first ten minutes of the game before RW Stephane Goulet scored with 1:37 left in the first to give Bakersfield momentum heading into the intermission. The Condors increased their lead to 3-2 in the second period as RW Pascal Morency struck twice for the Condors. C Joel Broda added two more goals in the third, including one shorthanded, putting the Condors up 5-2 early in the final frame. C Pierre-Andre Bureau scored 6:48 into the third, but the Condors clamped down afterwards as they held on for the 5-3 victory.

 

Friday, Feb. 25

Once again, Stockton drew first blood when LW Garet Hunt snapped home a rebound putting Stockton up 1-0 mid-way through the first period. The Joel BrodaCondors answered by scoring four straight goals in the second stanza. C Joel Broda scored two second period goals, one of which was his second shorthanded goal in as many games. F Bobby Robins and C Adam Naglich also scored for the Condors, who led 4-1 at the end of the period. Bakersfield shut down Stockton in the third, allowing just seven shots to earn the win.

 

Saturday, Feb. 26
CONDORS 4 vs. Stockton 1

RW Pascal Morency and Stockton C Chris Lawrence traded first period goals as the teams went into the dressing room tied 1-1. G Josh Tordjman withstood a flurry of chances early in the second to keep the game tied before D Tyler Gotto struck on the power play giving the Condors a 2-1 lead with 9:57 left in the second period. C Joel Broda scored his fifth goal of the three game series just 26 seconds later giving Bakersfield a 3-1 lead going into the third. C Adam Naglich scored the third power play goal of the game for Bakersfield at 2:50 of the third, securing the win and the three game sweep.

 

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • The Condors victory in Stockton on Tuesday marked the only time in the 11-game season series that the road team earned a win. The Condors finished the series 6-0-0 on home ice against the Thunder.
  • The Condors are now 12-2-0-0 at home against Pacific Division foes.
  • D Evan Stoflet played in his 100th game as a Condor on Friday, picking up an assist in the Condors 4-1 win.
  • The Condors scored three power play goals on Saturday, tying their season high. Both other times have come against the Ontario Reign.
  • RW Erick Lizon engaged in his first fight since Jan. 28 in Alaska, where he received a nine-game suspension. He returned to the Condors lineup last Sunday against Ontario.
  • With two more wins this weekend, the Condors improved their home record to 17-9-1-0, for a winning percentage of .648. The only other team in the Western Conference with a better home record is Alaska, who is 20-7-2-1 at home.

The Condors take a week away form home ice as they travel to Victoria for this week’s games. They return home for a three game series against the Idaho Steelheads, starting on Tuesday, March 8. The Condors are hosting a Canned Food Drive, courtesy of My 45, 96.5 Max FM, and Payments Systems Worldwide. Fans who donate two non-perishable food items can receive $1 Terrace Admission to the game. All canned food items will then be donated to the Golden Empire Gleaners who distribute the food to those in need throughout Kern County. It is also Half Price Beer Night, sponsored by Bud Light.
