Evan Trupp Named ECHL Player of the Week

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors announced today that rookie LW Evan Trupp has been named the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Feb. 6-12.

An impressive week for the Anchorage, AK native saw him tally three times and chip in with three assists for six points as the Condors rolled to a 3-0-0 perfect week. He was +6 on the week.


He shined on Saturday evening in front of 7,757 fans at Rabobank Arena, amassing three points (2g-1a) in regulation and scoring in the shootout as the Condors came from behind to defeat the Las Vegas Wranglers, 4-3. His second goal, in which he scored “lacrosse-style,” from behind the net has garnered over 26,400 views on Condors.TV and received national recognition from Yahoo!. Last Wednesday in Utah, Trupp recorded the first “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” of his career. He assisted on the game’s opening goal, scored the second goal of the game, and capped off the evening with his first professional fighting major in the third period.

“He’s a dynamic player who gets the fans out of their seats,” said Condors Head Coach Matt O’Dette. “We knew what he could do all along and the results are starting to show for him. He’s continuing to get better.”

He now has 10 points (3g-7a) in 12 games with Bakersfield since being acquired from the Cincinnati Cyclones on Jan. 12.

The rookie forward played the last four seasons for the University of North Dakota. While with the Fighting Sioux, Trupp scored scored 40 goals and assisted on 68 more for 108 points in 157 games played as an amateur.

Trupp becomes the third Condor this season to receive recognition from the league. RW Scott Freeman was named the ECHL Rookie of the Month for October and RW Tyler Helfrich was named ECHL Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 26-Jan. 1.

In addition, Condors G Matt Keetley was named runner-up for the Reebok Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week. The Medicine Hat, AB native went 3-0-0 on the week with a 1.26 GAA and a .961 save-percentage. He recorded 29 saves in a 4-0 shutout of Utah on Wednesday, stopped 28 of 29 shots on Friday in a 2-1 win over Las Vegas, and followed that up with 41 saves in a 4-3 shootout victory over the Wranglers on Saturday.
