Ontario holds on to edge Bakersfield 4-3

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (18-36-2-3, 41pts) scored first and scored last, but in between the Ontario Reign (38-13-3-2, 81pts) scored enough to take a 4-3 victory in front of 6,077 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night.
The Condors started the scoring in the opening minutes of the game, with F Daniel Koger notching his eighth of the season, on the power play, at 1:38. LW Peter Boyd set up the goal, and also dropped the mitts later in the period. Ontario scored to tie it up with less than five minutes to play in the period, with a goal by F Kyle Kraemer.

Ontario took the lead in the second, scoring twice to make it 3-1 before the midway point of the period. Rookie scoring leader F Mario Lamoureux and D Matt Register scored at 5:55 and 8:21 to take the lead. Boyd completed the “Gordie Howe Hat Trick” at 11:52 with a shorthanded goal to cut the lead back to 3-2.

The Reign bounced back with an insurance tally 6:14 into the third frame by former NHLer F D.J. King. F Brett Perlini and the Condors continued to battle, however, with the rookie winger burying his 7th of the season less than two minutes later. But the equalizer proved elusive for Bakersfield, who fell by a 4-3 margin.
