The California Connection Pushes Condors Past Stockton, 6-5

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (23-38-4-3, 53pts) registered a California hat trick, with all three California natives scoring, and fended off a late rally to defeat the Stockton Thunder (32-31-1-4, 69pts). It was Bakersfield’s third consecutive win in Stockton and in the overall season series this year.

Bakersfield scored the first two goals of the game as the Southern California duo of C Alex Hudson and C Parker Stanfield scored at 7:16 and 12:23 of the first period respectively. Stockton F Max Campbell cut the two-goal lead to one at 2-1 when he scored shorthanded at 16:59. The score stayed that way as the Thunder outshot the Condors, 8-7.

The Condors came out on fire in the second period and scored two quick goals to extend the lead to 4-1. First, 2:41 into the period, RW Tyler Helfrich scored his 17th of the season on a rebound to make it 3-1. C Robby Dee scored his team-leading 23rd goal of the year 43 seconds later on a breakaway to give the Condors a 4-1 lead. The goal was the end of the night for Stockton G Olivier Roy who was pulled for Shane Madolora. Then, Menlo Park native F Hans Benson completed the California hat trick with another breakaway goal at 11:44 which gave Bakersfield their largest lead of the night at 5-1. Stockton would make the intermission score line 5-3 with goals from F Garet Hunt and the second of the night from Campbell. Bakersfield was outshot, 19-8. 

LW Jesse Gimblett tipped a LW Kyle Calder shot past Madolora on the power play to give the Condors a 6-3 at 4:21 of the third period. The Thunder went on to score twice in the final 55 seconds, but the Condors held on for the 6-5 win.

Last Road Game and It’s Home for Three to Finish
