Tip-A-Condor raises nearly $7,500

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – Two fundraising events recently held by the Bakersfield Condors have yielded an impressive bounty for local non-profit organization. Last week’s Tip-A-Condor brought in $7,487 for the Kern County Shrine Club, while Tuesday night’s Canned Food Collection Night brought in 1,178 pounds of food for the Golden Empire Gleaners.

The 13th annual Tip-A-Condor dinner was held at Hooters on Rosedale Highway, and featured Condors players serving as waiters to collect tips for charity. Also involved on the night was a silent and live auction, a raffle for special Condors items and a little singing and dancing to top off the evening. Over 100 fans packed the restaurant for this night, and the $140,000 threshold was surpassed in the event’s history.

Auction items up for bid included NHL memorabilia from the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks, New York Rangers and Boston Bruins, as well as unique Condors artwork, a Condors mini-fridge, and a Condors Game Experience package that will put the winner in front of the microphone for a period on the radio broadcast and in the public address booth. Customized Condors serving trays alone brought in nearly $1,000 on the night.

“It was a fun night, I enjoyed doing it,” said Condors F Ian McKenzie, whose efforts brought in the most gratuities of any player on the evening, at $265. “I definitely had a generous table, though.”

Canned Food Collection brings in over 1,100 pounds

The Condors also held their annual Canned Food Collection Night on Tuesday, sponsored by My 45 and 92.1 Max FM, allowing fans the chance to get in to the game for just $1 by donating two non-perishable food items. 1,178 pounds of food was brought in, and fans relished the chance to see the Condors win their third consecutive game, 4-2 over the Utah Grizzlies.

An event the Condors have held every single year of their existence, the collection has brought in over 22,000 pounds over 14 years. Last year, the Gleaners served over 2 million pounds of food and over 200,000 meals. For more information, visit http://goldenempiregleaners.com/home.
