Verreault-Lagace-Trupp Connect as Condors win Fourth Straight, 4-2

LAS VEGAS – F Francis Verreault deflected home an Evan Trupp shot early in the third period and it proved to be the game-winner as the Bakersfield Condors (18-34-2-3, 41pts) earned their fourth straight victory, 4-2, over the Las Vegas Wranglers (27-21-2-3, 59pts). G Brian Stewart stopped 47 shots for his fourth straight win.
The Condors killed off an early Las Vegas power play and weathered an early Wranglers storm to keep them off the board. Bakersfield then struck for two goals 1:45 apart to take a 2-0 lead. First, Verreault blasted home a drop pass from C Jacob Lagace at 12:04 to put the Condors in front. Trupp doubled the lead at 13:49 when his feed in front deflected off Wranglers G Joe Fallon and across the line. Stewart took over from there, making 18 first period stops.

It was the Wranglers turn in the second period to kill off an early penalty and they used that momentum to get back in the game. F Scott Pitt scored on a point blank chance in front at 11:49 to cut the lead to 2-1. Seconds later at 12:28, F Eric Lampe slapped home a one-timer from the left-wing circle to knot the score at 2-2. The Condors would get a late power play, but could not convert as they were outshot 20-7 in the frame.

In the third period, it was the Condors who would get the go-ahead tally. After a loose scramble in front of net, Trupp’s shot hit the leg of Verreault and trickled past Fallon to put the Condors in front 3-2 at 3:43. It was all Wranglers from there on though, but Stewart turned aside shot after shot for Bakersfield. The Condors sealed the win as C Tyler Maxwell got his first as a Condor into an empty-net in the final minute of play.
