    Home Town Hero

The Bakersfield Condors would like to extend a special thanks to Marine Specialist Aaron Coates. Coates is a 24-year old Kern County resident who has returned from Iraq with a purple heart. He sustained 3rd and 4th degree burns over a significant portion of his body when the fuel truck he was driving was struck by a pair of rocket propelled grenades. He risked his life by steering the truck away from the rest of his convoy before it exploded and was given only a 10% chance of survival by doctors. He served in Kosovo as well. Aaron dropped the puck at the January 1st Condors game and we would like to say thank you for all that he has done and will do for our country.

    Connor James- ECHL All-Star

James, 22, will be headed to The 2005 Coors Light ECHL All-Star Team. The All-Star game will take place on January 26th in Reading, PA. James is in his rookie season, joining the Condors from the Los Angeles Kings, who selected him in the ninth round of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.

    Tsunami Relief Fund Auction

New Year's Eve 2004 was a night to remember, as the Condors held a special New Year's Eve Jersey Raffle & Auction, in which the Condors teamed up with Bright House Networks and the United Way of Kern County to raise $15,050 for the United Way & Tsunami Relief Fund. "The support of this community and the Condors fans consistently amazes us," said the United Way's Director of Resource Development Jennifer Endes.

The United Way earmarked $1,000 dollars of the funds raised to go over seas and assist in the Tsunami Relief Fund. "It was good timing that we were having this auction and gave us an opportunity to help out in South East Asia," Endes added. "This auction marks a special day in Condors history, when people in Bakersfield came together and helped out those effected by the earthquake and tsunami," said Condors Director of Community Relations & Development John Ayre. "We're very fortunate to have homes to sleep in, food to eat, and clean water to drink. Whatever we can do to help out, we try and do".

The Bakersfield Condors continued their relief efforts over the New Year's weekend as they teamed up with the American Red Cross - Kern County Chapter on Saturday. Each night game worn jerseys from the 2003-2004 season were raffled off for $1.00 a ticket. $1,464 was raised during the two games, adding to the weekend totals, bringing the total amount raised to $16,514.
