Hello, Condorstown!
The Condors were represented at the 2008 Chase Chevrolet ECHL All-Star Game Wednesday night by two players: D Kevin Truelson, who was in the starting lineup, and F Todd Griffith. Neither got on the scoresheet, although Griffith compiled four shots on goal and Truelson was a +1 on the evening, as the National Conference beat the American Conference, 10-7. "It's always good to win," said Truelson after the game. The blueliner was playing in his second career All-Star Game. "We were competitive from the first shift, so we got the big lead. We just wanted to win; I didn't come here for three days to lose the game." Griffith, who was playing in his second All-Star Game in as many seasons, enjoyed the experience. "I had a great time, unfortunately I just couldn't find the back of the net," said Griffith, who had a third period breakaway included in his efforts on the night. "It's all fun and games, but it's also competitive. All-in-all, a lot of fun." Truelson also hammered home the winning goal in the Breakaway Relay during the Skills Competition Tuesday night, leading the National Conference to a 26-25 win over the American Conference.
The
Condors entered the All-Star Break on a roll, going 3-0-1 with wins
over a pair of first place clubs for a four game unbeaten streak for
the first time since October. First came a victory over Phoenix, who
the Condors trail in the National Conference standings, on Jan. 12.
A two-game trip to Victoria last week to battle the Salmon Kings yielded
a 5-1 victory and a 5-4 overtime loss that saw the Condors come from
behind in the third period to earn a point. And last Friday, Bakersfield
defeated the Pacific Division-leading Las Vegas Wranglers for the
second straight meeting in front of 6,771 fans.
Recent acquisitions have bolstered the Condors lineup, starting with G Michel Robinson, who has gone 3-1-1 with a .914 save percentage in five starts since joining the team earlier this month. His only loss was a 35-save performance in his Condors debut, a defeat in Stockton. Jason Kostadine, picked up off waivers after being released from the Augusta Lynx, has contributed with strong physical play and scored a big goal in Victoria on Jan. 15. Chris Di Ubaldo, a rookie out of the Canadian Interuniversity League who started this season in Germany, notched an assist in his Condors debut that same night. Tom Boudreau, picked up from the Reading Royals in a trade for Steven Later, notched an assist in his Condors debut as well in last Friday's win against Vegas.
The Condors are hosting a Christian Rock Concert and the Veggie Tales on Friday, Feb. 8 when the Victoria Salmon Kings come to The Nest, giving local churches and religious organizations a great opportunity to come out to a Condors game and enjoy discounts on tickets. That night, Christian recording artist Wavorly will be performing, along with Transistor Radio, Radial Angel and A Current Affair. The music will start on the arena plaza at 5 p.m. and will continue until game time at 7 p.m. Wavorly will perform acoustically during the first intermission, and then will perform a full set outside on the plaza after the game. The night will also feature an appearance by the popular Veggie Tales - Bob the Tomato and Larry the Cucumber will entertain fans and pose for pictures in the Condors Photo Booth. The Veggie Tales appear courtesy of KERI 1180 AM, Barber Honda and Island Style. All Churches will receive specially priced tickets - $6 for terrace and $12 for executive (normally $10 and $16) - which will allow them to see the Condors take on Victoria and check out all the bands' performances. To receive the special rates, tickets must be purchased through the Condors office prior to the day of the event. Call 324-PUCK (7825) and ask to speak to a ticket representative.

This
issue's Blast from the Past looks back on a past Condors All-Star
appearance. F Andrew Ianiero represented Bakersfield at the 2004 ECHL
All-Star Game in Peoria, Ill. The 2003-04 campaign was the Condors
first as a member of the ECHL, and Ianiero was the club's lone representative.
"It's an honor," said Ianiero. "It's a nice break from the rat race of the season and you just kind of have to take it all in." Ianiero got on the board with a pass out of the corner to set up Gwinnett Gladiators D Troy Milam for a first period tally. It was the second straight year for Ianiero in All-Star Game competition. He also represented the Dayton Bombers his rookie season in 2003, scoring the eventual game winner for the Northern Conference in an 8-2 victory. "It's great to get to meet all the guys from different teams that you play against all the time. But you get to know each other and get to play with each other and just have some fun. The games are pretty competitive because there are a lot of young guys trying to make a name for themselves - hoping to be seen and get a chance to play at the next level - and then there are the somewhat older guys trying to put on a show and show what they can do." In the Condors 10-year history, 11 different players have represented Bakersfield at either the ECHL or West Coast Hockey League All-Star Games, including two players (Todd Griffith and Paul Willett) who have been selected twice. D Kevin Truelson this season became the third Condors player to make the starting lineup, joining Guy Dupuis (ECHL, 2005) and Willett (WCHL, 2000).

The Condors Mailbag has been integrated into the Condors website as a way to answer questions regarding the team, front office and organization. The coaches and front office will answer all relative questions. If you'd like to ask a question, or check out some other questions, the Condors Mailbag is displayed on the Condors homepage. Q: I wanted to tell you how much fun we had and what a success the puck drop for our son (Army Soldier Rick Morrison) was on Friday night (1-4-08). We had a total of 74 family and friends attend the game to see Rick in uniform drop the puck. Some of the people had never attended a Condor Hockey game and said they would return to future games. The event was done perfectly and brought tears to many people. Everyone was happy with their seats and impressed with the entire Condor Organization. Sincerely,
A: Thanks for your note James. I want to thank you for having Rick join us, and allowing the Condors to be part of such a great celebration. The entire Condorstown family wishes the best to you and your family! Matthew
