    Hello, Hello Condorstown!

    Third Annual Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon

The Bakersfield Condors are proud to present the Third Annual Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon, taking place on Friday, Feb. 16 and Saturday, Feb. 17. In its first two years, the Hockey-Thon raised nearly $44,000 for “Links for Life,” a breast cancer resource center serving Kern County.

Organized by former Fog and Condors defenseman Kevin Barrett, the event will include hockey players of all ages and experience levels completing a combined 27 hours of hockey. Entry requires players to raise a minimum of $200 in pledges and in return they receive a commemorative jersey and two tickets to the Condors Game on February 17. Prior to the Condors game on Saturday, there will be a Celebrity game beginning at 5 p.m., featuring former Condors Paul Rosebush, Glen Mears, Paul Willett, Scott Hay, Quinn Fair, Al Murphy, Brian McCarthy and others!

Hockey-Thon participants have the chance to bid on four spots to play in the Celebrity Game. Bidding takes place on eBay and is available now through Feb. 2. If you are interested in bidding on one of the four spots click here. Winners will meet former Condors players on the ice and play on the first line in the fight against breast cancer!

”The Hockey-Thon has the potential to be a huge fundraiser for a great cause,” said Condors Owner Jonathan Fleisig. “With my mother battling leukemia, I can relate to what a devastating effect cancer has on a family. If you can skate, please play. If you don’t skate, please find someone that does and give them a pledge.”

Fleisig will put his money where his mouth is, donating $50 for each participating player that signs up, and a 10% match on all proceeds raised.

    Valentine’s Day Dish

This year we wanted to give our fans some insight as to what some of our Condors players are doing for Valentine’s Day. Single and dateless? Married with no plans? Don’t consider V-Day a holiday? You’ll get the scoop here first!

Kevin St. Jacques would like to spend this Valentine’s Day making his fiancée happy. He doesn’t have any specific plans, but looks forward to a nice dinner and a little romance. Kevin considers Valentine’s Day just another day, but definitely takes advantage of the holiday to show some love!

David Kudelka and his wife do not celebrate Valentine’s Day, but if they did, the perfect gift for David would be a kiss from his wife.

Alex Rogosheske is not looking forward to Valentine’s Day, although he says he does have plans with his fiancée to have dinner and see a movie. Alex would much rather be on a trip to Hawaii for V-Day. He says that most of his V-Day’s have been pretty nice.

Danny Taylor is single and still looking for a Valentine’s Day date. In the past, Danny has had some great dates at the beach, at nice restaurants or miniature golfing. This year he may be going out with his other single teammates, but will not let that discourage him from being positive about “single awareness day,” as he likes to call it.

Scott Borders has big plans with his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day. They are going to a nice restaurant to spend a pleasant evening together. Scott looks forward to Valentine’s Day dinner because he remembers one year when he didn’t have a date and his roommate came home from a great evening and bragged about the whole thing. If he could describe the perfect V-Day date it would be golfing at Pebble Beach.

Todd Griffith first of all wanted to wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day! Todd also told us of a horrible story when he was 13 on Valentine’s Day and he got dumped! This year, he wants his Valentine’s Day to be perfect, but says he still is contemplating how that will be. All Todd really wants this V-Day is to spend time with his girlfriend.

  • Condors' Mailbag

The Condors’ Mailbag has been integrated into the Condors website as a way to answer questions regarding the team, front office and organization. The coaches and front office will answer all relative questions. If you’d like to ask a question or check out some other questions the Condors’ Mailbag is displayed on the Condors homepage.

    From Justin:
I have noticed that for promotions as in Kelly’s Cafe or Pass the Press Pass that you never have the fun games on the penalty box side. Why is this?

    Mailbag Response
    Hi Justin,

As you know, most of the promotions we do during the games are broadcast on the video board. The arena is set up so that the cameras are on the penalty box side of the arena. Therefore in order for the cameras to get a good shot for the video board we have a limited amount of sections for in-stands contests.

Now the Kelley's Cafe shutout period promotion can be done with any section as we don't necessarily need the video board. The winning section is rotated throughout the year and I track the sections that have had an opportunity to win free biscuits and gravy so that everyone will get a chance.

Of course everyone has a chance to go home with a prize if we hit our Carl's Jr. Power Play in the second period or Mcflurry Meltdown during the final 2 minutes of the first period!

Thanks for your question and we will see you at the games. Go Condors!

    Director of Marketing and Operations

    Q and A with an All-Star!

January 16th and 17th, two Bakersfield Condors rookies represented the team in Boise, Idaho in the Rbk ECHL All-Star Game. One of those rookies was Rane Carnegie who has been an excellent addition to the Condors roster since being traded to the team from the Texas Wildcatters earlier this year. To participate in the ECHL All-Star Game is an amazing honor, but to truly find out what it was like we had to ask Rane himself.

Q: What did you think of the All-Star Game and the event as a whole?

A: I thought it was very well put together. It was really nice to see other players from other conferences and divisions you wouldn’t get to see otherwise. I really enjoyed myself.

Q: It seemed like a lot of the players knew each other from previous teams or from their stints in Junior Hockey. Did you know any previous teammates at the All-Star Game?

A: I knew quite a few. I knew Paul Bissonnette of the Wheeling Nailers, Jamie Tardif of the Toledo Storm and Maxime Boisclair of the Johnstown Chiefs. It’s funny how you run into guys over and over again. It gives you a good opportunity to talk about the good old times we used to have.

Q: I understand the Slap Shot Competition was the event you wanted to compete in least. Were you feeling any extra pressure when the local high school student out shot you in the first round?

A: (Laughs) No. Not at all. I just wanted to give all the nervous high school kids hope. It’s all about the kids and trying to inspire our youth. They are our future. We have to give them some hope.

Q: What do you plan on doing with your jersey?

A: I haven’t decided yet. I will probably give it to my sister. She always collects my jerseys and her husband is making a sports bar. It would be cool for them to hang it in their new bar so I might do that. Right now it’s just hanging in my closet until I figure out what I want to do with it.

Q: What was your favorite part of the All-Star week?

A: I enjoyed the opportunity to show what the Condors can do and compete in the game. I also enjoyed meeting new people and having fun. It was a great experience and I’m glad I was chosen as a representative for the team.

Happy Birthday and Condor Players and Staff!
