    Hello Jason,

Rosebush to Re-join Team This Weekend

Paul Rosebush will re-join the Condors to play this Friday and Saturday night. Rosebush, who retired after last season, was called upon earlier this year for a 2-game stint when the Condors were caught short on injuries. Unfortunately, the injury bug has attacked again. This week Scott Borders and Nick Economakos were placed on the 30-day Injured Reserve while Joel Irving and Sean Venedam were placed on the 7-day IR. On Tuesday, defenseman Oriel McHugh was activated from the7- Day IR. Forward Nello Ferrara was also signed to help offset the injuries. It’s hopeful that F Eric Neilson will be activated from the IR within the next week or so.

Boycott the Condors? I Don’t Think So!

A local television station recently attempted to call a boycott against Condors games, which failed miserably as expected. However it spurred the most positive, outward expressions of loyalty and support that Condorstown has ever seen.

“My sincere gratitude to each of you who wrote emails in defense of both me and the Condors,” said Condors President Matthew Riley. “On behalf of our staff, players, and coaches, we truly appreciate every word! Your comments made us laugh out loud, as well as reignite the passion which leads us to this profession”.

    Condors Mailbag

The Condors’ Mailbag has been integrated into the Condors website as a way to answer questions regarding the team, front office and organization. The coaches and front office will answer all relative questions. The Condors’ Mailbag is displayed on the Condors homepage. An archive of recently asked questions can be found at bakersfieldcondors.com.

Q: Why in the world would the Condors trade a quality player like Shiryaev to someone in our own division?

A: We decided to help Dennis with his family as his wife just had an operation a few weeks ago and he did not want to go far away for family concerns. It was clear that Dennis wasn't going to play much this year, therefore, we needed to move him since we had five vets and the need for having five vets coming down the stretch just isn't there. We would have preferred to move him somewhere else but sometimes we need to think of the human side of our business and bite the bullet. Now with that being said, we are not playing San Diego for the rest of the year and if we play them in the 2nd round it's not the end of the world. We have Neilson, an LA Kings prospect, whom we are told by the Kings needs to play.

    Marty Raymond, Condors Head Coach

Q: Does the league do any kind of a review or evaluation of the performance of the on ice officials?

A: The ECHL Officiating Department employs five supervisors whose sole purpose is to coach, evaluate and grade the on-ice officials. One of the many goals of the department is to maintain a level of consistency within any given game. The supervisors' role is to ensure our officials are enforcing the League mandates set forth at the beginning of the season and to coach officials in such areas as positioning, judgment, ability, etc. Every official receives a midseason rating grade based on the first half of the season. During a year- end ratings meeting at the end of the season, officials are selected to work the Kelly Cup Playoffs based on the ratings they received during course of the entire season.

New this season, any game in which a supervisor is present, the officials are handed a written evaluation of that game with a grade. They sign the form at the bottom to acknowledge receipt of the evaluation and then take a copy with them. At any given time they can go back and review the areas that need improvement as a reminder of what they need to work on in order to be selected for the playoffs.
