Just as we commit ourselves to putting a winning team on the ice for our fans, we'd like to thank our Corporate Partners who've committed to us not only for this coming season, but have signed partnership commitments for years to come. Our partners play a very key role as they afford us the opportunity to not only put on first class family entertainment every game, but also in helping us to secure and keep such a quality coaching staff, which is essential for putting a good team on the ice. So a special thanks goes out to the following multi-year partners signed up so far this offseason: Body Xchange, CHW: Mercy & Memorial Hospitals, Central Body Works, Dave Long of Watson Realty, Flashco, Lennar Homes, McDonald's, Pulte Homes, SC Architect and Tuff Shed. Thank you for committing to us; thank you for committing to your community!

    Swooping Back to The Nest!

In case you hadn't heard, five of your favorite Condors have already committed to return for the 2007-08 season. On June 6, captain Sean Venedam and David Kudelka agreed to terms with the club; on June 12, Andrew Ianiero and Reagan Leslie announced their intentions to return to The Nest; and on June 27, Brett Lutes confirmed his return to Condorstown. These players epitomize what the Condors are all about, as they provide leadership, scoring, a physical presence, the drive to win and are great citizens of Condorstown. As head coach Marty Raymond said recently, the team has some unfinished business, with the ultimate goal of bringing a Kelly Cup Championship to Condorstown, and with these top players returning, the team has taken some giant steps in that direction already.

Q and A With Andrew Ianiero

Summer is underway, but it's still been a busy offseason in Condorstown. Five returning players have agreed to terms, setting up a strong roster for the 2007-08 season and a very optimistic outlook for all the fans. Andrew Ianiero is one Condor who is having a life changing summer with big plans.

Q: Do you have any plans for this summer?
A: Yes, it's going to be a big summer for me. I'm getting married this Saturday which I'm really excited about. It's going to be fun. Along with all the wedding plans I'm going to buy a house. I love Bakersfield and I definitely want to be here long term. Between getting married and the love I have for this city, I think buying a house is a good investment.

Q: Wow! You do have a packed summer. Between all the house searching and wedding preparation, have you had any time to train or hit the gym?
A: Definitely. We have a good group of guys who are still in town and we try to get in the gym every day to get ready for next year. We do as much as possible now so the transition into the season goes much smoother.

Q: What are your expectations for the upcoming year for the team and yourself?
A: From a team standpoint, I think it's important to improve from last year. We had a great team but untimely injuries. If we can be better than we were last year before the injuries, we will have a really special team.

From a personal standpoint, I need to continue my roll as our power-forward and help the team as a whole. If I can continue to make myself better, others will also get better. I want to bring a championship to Bakersfield.

Beautiful Bakersfield Group Humanitarian Award Repeat Winners

On Saturday, June 9 the Condors were awarded their second consecutive Beautiful Bakersfield Group Humanitarian Award, for their charitable efforts last season. More than $470,000 was donated in goods, services and monetary donations to local non-profit organizations and schools.

The Condors would like to say thank you to all the fans and sponsors in Condorstown for their endless support and dedication. To read more click here.

Riley Named Executive of the Year; Lowe and Statezni Garner Ticket Honors
    3guysaward

While the coaches and players were putting together a great year on the ice, the Condors staff was hard at work in the front office. The league took notice of our off-ice achievements, and named President Matthew Riley ECHL Executive of the Year, while selecting Greg Lowe and Tim Statezni as Ticket Executives of the Year. Congratulations to all three of them, and thanks to all of you for making it possible!

    Condors Mailbag

The Condors' Mailbag has been integrated into the Condors website as a way to answer questions regarding the team, front office and organization. The coaches and front office will answer all relative questions. If you'd like to ask a question or check out some other questions the Condors' Mailbag is displayed on the Condors homepage.

Q: Are the Condors in the process of seeking an NHL affiliation? What exactly is involved in securing an NHL affiliation?

Mailbag Response: Yes, the Condors are actively seeking an NHL affiliation. We have submitted proposals to Boston, Chicago, Detroit, Ottawa, Philadelphia (teams without an affiliation below the AHL level) and other clubs that might be interested in switching affiliates. With such an affiliation, the Condors would receive a number of prospects to play and develop, which could help the team, but those very same players could be called up or moved at any time, which could hurt the team. Now that the NHL Draft is done, Director of Hockey Operations Bob Bartlett is expecting talks to intensify, but cautions that the team will only enter an affiliation if it will truly serve the best interests of the Condors.

Former Condor Connor James Re-Signs with Pittsburgh Penguins

Connor James, who played with the Condors and was an ECHL All-Star in 2004-05, re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League June 19. Selected in the ninth round (279th overall) by the Los Angeles Kings in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, the 24-year-old notched 46 points (21g, 25a) and 34 penalty minutes in his first pro season with Bakersfield in 2004-05. He tied for the ECHL rookie lead with four short-handed goals and six short- handed points, while ranking third among league rookies in plus-minus rating with +25. James spent the majority of the 2005-06 campaign with the American Hockey League's Manchester Monarchs and played two games with the Kings. Last season he played for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, Pittsburgh's AHL affiliate.

    New ECHL Playoff Format
    echl20thann

The ECHL Board of Governors unanimously approved a new format for the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs. In the National Conference, the top eight teams will once again qualify for the postseason. The division winners will be seeded first and second in order of points followed by the next six-best teams. All series will once again be best-of-seven affairs, but unlike last year, after the first round, teams will NOT be re-seeded. For a full description of the 2008 playoff format (including the American Conference playoff format) and seeding, click here.
