    Greetings!

    New Faces Coming to CondorsTown

Over the last month the Condors have signed five new players, with plenty more soon to come. Forwards Justin Quenneville, Oscar Stenberg, Sean Venedam, Scott Borders and defenseman Anders Olsson will suit up for the Condors in October. Together they’ll bring high energy, speed and size to the Condors lineup. With the addition of these five players, the Condors now have a total of seven players signed for the upcoming season including Nate Metcalf and Reagan Leslie.

Quenneville was named to the United Hockey League All-Star team last year in his rookie season. Olsson played for Mastini Varese HC in Italy last season after playing four years at Bemidji State University in Minnesota. Stenberg, a native of Sweden has played for Swedish and Czech hockey clubs including Uppsala of the Allsvenskan North League. Borders was named Lethbridge Hurricanes’ Defensive Player of the Year three times. Borders also won the 2001-02 WCHL Championship Taylor Cup with Fresno. Venedam led the Fort Wayne Komets in goal scoring and was named Best Defensive Forward in the UHL last season.

    Get To Know Your Team

Anders Olsson - describes his favorite food as meat and potatoes. However, it’s moose meat and Swedish potatoes for this guy. Like kids across the U.S. and Sweden, Olsson looks up to fellow Swede and NHL player Peter Forsberg. Although he favors himself as the next Forsberg, he’d one day like to meet Mario Lemieux. When he’s not playing hockey, Olsson spends his time fishing, hunting or listening to country singer Toby Keith.

    Marty Goes To Camp

    By Coach Marty Raymond

The Monarchs-Kings training camp was a chance for me to see elite young rookies practice. The camp also gave me the chance to associate with coaches from other levels and exchange ideas. From what I saw, there were about seven or eight guys that will definitely play in the NHL. However, there were five guys that I’d love to see in Condors uniforms. Unfortunately, we have to wait for the NHL to complete their rosters before we can contact some of them.

Former Condors Conner James and Yutaka Fukufuji both had great camps. I expect to see James in Manchester; but the goalie situation in Los Angeles will define where Fukufuji will end up. He may end up being a Condor again – we’ll just have to wait and see.

After the Monarchs-Kings camp, I left for Minnesota where I’ve been working camps and recruiting for the upcoming season. Bob Bartlett and Mark Pederson have also been putting mileage on their cars looking for new players. New Condor Scott Borders has been living with Pederson who has been helping him get in shape. I am confident that we will see Borders as a dominant force, like he was two years ago. I’ll be back in CondorsTown soon. I’ll see ya then!

    Matt’s Movie Corner

Matt’s movie corner is the place to go to find out the TRUTH about movies. See what movies score a Hat Trick!!

    Bad News Bears (3 pucks)

“I was impressed with Billy Bob Thornton. Going in I never thought that Billy Bob could hold a candle to Walter Matthau, because Matthau was a legend. However, he did a good job as Buttermaker. Overall, I thought that the casting was excellent. It was great to see that the kids actually looked like the original cast.” ~ Matthew Riley, President

    Wedding Crashers (3 pucks)

“I loved it - mainly because of the sarcasm and the jokes were so fast that everyone in the theater would laugh five minutes later. Owen Wilson was depicted as the main character however Vince Vaughn quickly stole the show. This movie was one of the few conversational movies that can pull the audience in every single time they watch it. Wedding Crashers is one that I’ll see again and again.” ~ Heather Baumruk, Marketing Intern

    Bewitched (1 puck)

“This movie was definitely for the little ones. Will Farrell only had maybe three funny parts in it. It was another fast attempt by Farrell to make a quick buck. The only thing that made the movie bearable was the tie-in to the original Bewitched TV series.” ~ Scott Frasnelly, Dir. of Marketing & Operations

    Sponsor Highlight – Goodwill Industries

The Bakersfield Condors would like to thank Goodwill Industries and David and Terri Hessberger for their continued support. David and Terri’s support doesn’t end on the business side; they take their work home – to Terri’s sanctuary.

Terri’s office changed almost overnight from a place to work – to a place to view the latest Condors merchandise. It all started when her husband surprised her with a framed poster of the Condors and her son, Ryan, the stick boy. It was the perfect gift because she always knew she wanted to do a hockey theme. So from that moment on anytime something new came out she had to have it.

“My husband probably wasn’t thrilled when he saw how much the painters charged me,” she said. “But he knows the Condors are my passion.”

The Condors team poster hangs as a focal point on a main wall. The Condors logo graces almost every surface in the room; it’s on the white closet doors, the tan and rust-colored walls, the computer screensaver and the pennants turned window treatments. The framed poster that her husband gave her hangs next to the window. A collection of Condor novelties and giveaways are proudly displayed on the TV stand.

“It’s just my shrine,” said Terri. “Hockey has always been my passion, but now I have my haven.”
