Greetings!
The Condors have announced some returning favorites and some new faces in the last couple of weeks. Kevin St. Jacques, Mike Hofstrand and Andrew Ianiero are coming back to Bakersfield, while fans will be getting their first glimpse of Kevin Kotyluk, Oriel McHugh, Michel Massie and Dave Cacciola, which brings the total number of player signed to 15. St. Jacques returns for a second season as a Condor after assisting the Condors in the Kelly Cup Playoffs with 3 assists in 5 games against Alaska. Hofstrand posted more than a point a game in his first 12 starts last year and was able to come back from an injury to score a goal in Game 5 of the Kelly Cup Playoff series vs. Alaska. Ianiero returns to the Condors after spending a season in Texas. Ianiero has been selected as an ECHL All-Star twice, once with Bakersfield in 2003-04 and once with Dayton in 2002- 03. One of the tallest acquisitions is 6’3” Oriel McHugh, who helped the Laredo Bucks to the CHL President’s Cup Finals in his rookie year. Another big man on the team is 6’3” Kotyluk who won the UHL Colonial Cup Championship in 2002-03 with Michel Massie and Sean Venedam. Massie skated alongside St. Jacques in 1999-00 to win the former WCHL’s championship under Condors Head Coach Marty Raymond. Goaltender Cacciola joins the team in his rookie season.
Oscar Stenberg – “Blood, Sweat and Hockey” is something that every player is familiar with, but for Stenberg that’s the title of his favorite book by Borje Salming, a former NHL player. When he’s not reading you can find him listening to his favorite group Metallica or doing a little hiking and fishing near the family cabin. This 6’3” Swede says his playing style is similar to NHL forward Keith Tkachuk. Justin Quenneville – Says the perfect partner to a good steak and potatoes are Black Eyed Peas. However, this guy doesn’t like them on his plate—he prefers to listen to their lyrical beats on his stereo. When he’s not streaking across the ice, this Montreal native likes to play golf and poker. Quenneville enjoys attending movies and reading John Grisham books, especially “The Firm,” during his free time. Quenneville says his playing style is most like fellow Canadian and Tampa Bays’ Brad Richards although he would someday like to meet Wayne Gretzky. Mike Hofstrand – Is all about the classics. He enjoys dining on steak and lobster and soaking up rays in Hawaii. While relaxing in the sun you can find this guy reading “Lord of the Rings” books and listening to Green Day. If he’s not skating across the ice or relaxing in the sun then he’ll probably be in the garage working on cars. Kevin St. Jacques – Did anyone say heaven? Alaska’s 20-22 hours of sunlight during the summer easily translates into heaven for this golf- obsessed Canadian. Away from the golf course, he can be found listening to Linkin Park or reading “Of Mice of Men” by John Steinbeck. St. Jacques describes his favorite food as chicken parmesan and his playing style most similiar to that of NHL player Steve Yzerman.
The Condors are proposing to add Kids Zone in hopes of providing a great place for your kids to release some energy during the Condors games. Plans are to locate it on the south concourse behind sections 117 & 100. Kids Zone should not be viewed as a childcare facility, but a place kids can enjoy the Inflatable Slapshot and other games and entertainment. As we develop this plan, we’re looking for feedback from the fans. What would you like to see in the zone? Should there be an age limit? What other comments do you have? To voice your input please contact Shannon Armstrong at sar mstrong@bakersfieldcondors.com or by phone at 324-PUCK (7825).
The Condors are working around the clock to create a new website just for kids. The new site CondorsKids.com will keep kids busy with cool new games, player profiles, kids club information and much more. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
Matt’s movie corner is the place to go to find out the TRUTH about movies. See what movies score a Hat Trick!!
This felt more like a Sunday afternoon movie special than a motion picture. It’s intense and it’s got a slight claustrophobic feel. There were some critical elements that were missing but overall the suspense level was high. ~ Justin Fahsbender, Group Sales Manager
I laughed the entire time. Jessica Simpson surprisingly delivered all of her eight lines well. I enjoyed the movie even though I didn’t expect much out of it. ~ Craig Turney, Account Manager
This was your typical John Singleton movie. I was pleasantly surprised by singer-turned-actor Andre Benjamin’s performance; he was actually believable. The storyline was very well developed and well executed. ~ Angelese Reed, Public Relations Assistant
