    Greetings!

Send Out the Welcome Wagon, We Have New Arrivals

Defenseman Scott Balan joins the Condors by way of the Greenville Grrrowl, where he recorded a plus- minus rating of +10 last season and helped the Grrrowl to the playoffs. Balan can contribute experience from his stint in the AHL, where he appeared in 38 games with the Norfolk Admirals from 2002 to 2004.

Louis-Philippe Martin spent the last four years in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, where he solidified himself as one of the league’s top scoring threats.

Despite playing six years with EC Graz, the Austrian native Florian Iberer is considered a rookie by ECHL standards. The 23-year old was a member of the Austrian National Team at the 2002 IIHF World Junior Championships.

    Get To Know Your Team

Florian Iberer – Describes his favorite food as anything Italian. You can find this Austrian either listening to Nickelback or reading “The DaVinci Code” by Dan Brown. When he’s not playing hockey, Iberer spends his time mountain biking, playing golf and traveling through the beautiful countryside in Greece.

    Meet Assistant Coach Mark Pederson

Mark Pederson didn’t waste any time getting ready for his first season with Bakersfield. “As soon as I got in around the middle of September, it was time to go to work,” said the Condors new assistant head coach. Pederson arrives in Bakersfield from a three- year stay with the San Diego Gulls, where he put the finishing touches on a 17-year playing career that included stretches in Austria, Sweden, Germany and the NHL. He has worn four different NHL uniforms, including the Montreal Canadians, Philadelphia Flyers, San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings.

The Prelate, Saskatchewan, native isn’t entirely new to the coaching ranks. During his stay in San Diego, Pederson also served as a player-coach. This season, Pederson will be behind the bench full-time with Head Coach Marty Raymond. “I look forward to working closely with Marty to prepare for this season and work with our players to put a competitive and exciting product on the ice.”

Condors to Host Job Fair and Anthem Tryouts

The Condors annual Job Fair gives individuals interested in sports an opportunity to get their foot in the door. The Condors will be looking for individuals to assist on game days in the following areas: Merchandise Sales, Program Sales, Giveaway Distribution, Press Box Assistant, Chuck-A-Puck, Slapshot, Mascots and back-up P.A. Announcer. In addition, the Condors will also be interviewing for Inside Sales positions. The Job Fair will be held on Thursday, September 22nd at the Holiday Inn Select, 801 Truxtun Avenue, in the Sumner Room from 5:00 – 6:30 pm.

The Condors are hosting tryouts for anthem singers on Monday, September 26th, from 4:00 – 6:00 pm. Vocalists will perform “The Star Spangled Banner” a cappella before a panel of judges at the Rabobank Arena. The Condors are also looking for at least one talented individual who can perform the Canadian National Anthem, “O Canada,” and who is available to sing on the nights that the Victoria Salmon Kings come to town. For more information, contact the Condors Director of Community Relations & Development Mikie Hayhurst at 324-PUCK (7825).

Sponsor Highlight – Mercy & Memorial Catholic Healthcare West Hospitals

The Bakersfield Condors would like to thank Mercy & Memorial Catholic Healthcare West Hospitals, one of our top corporate partners, for their continued support. Last season, Mercy & Memorial CHW Hopspitals sponsored the T.H.I.N.K. (Turn Hockey Into New Knowledge) program.

“Last year we sponsored the T.H.I.N.K. program, because we wanted to encourage kids to stay in school, to study and to work hard,” said Ken Keller, vice president of business development. “We are looking forward to sponsoring this program again.”

Last year over 8,000 students were awarded for their academic success. The T.H.I.N.K. program was designed to recognize and award academic achievement and good behavior at the elementary and middle school levels.
