Hello Condorstown!
The 2007-08 Condors will hit the ice for the first time Friday, Oct. 5 at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center. Initial sets of on-ice workouts will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. and again from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. The team will also practice at the Ice Center on Saturday, Oct. 6 (8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.) and Sunday Oct. 7 (8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. and noon to 1:15 p.m.). The Condors will open the doors to the public for
the first time on Oct. 7 from noon to 3 p.m. for the Open House and Family
Day event at the Ice Center, during which you can
get your first look
at this year's team while they hit the rink for Sunday
afternoon's practice session. Fans in attendance will
also have the opportunity to skate with the team after
practice.
Former Condors Jamie Cooke and Paul Rosebush will be honored this season, as the Condors will retire both of their numbers at Rabobank Arena. The ceremony for Cooke's No. 28 will take place on Saturday, Dec. 15, and will be followed two weeks later by the retirement of Rosebush's No. 17 on Saturday, Dec. 29. Both Rosebush and Cooke are undoubtedly deserving of this honor, considering the two of them rank in the top 5 on the Condors all-time points, goals and assists lists. Be sure to come down to the arena and join the rest of The Nest in celebrating these two former Condor stars! In addition to the two number retirements, you'll want to check out the recent release detailing the updated list of exciting promotions taking place at Condors home games all season long. For a complete list of all of the promotional events, be sure to check out the promotional calendar on the website, and then get down to Rabobank Arena to catch the Condors in 2007-08!
The Condors agreed to terms with center Todd Griffith on Tuesday. Griffith comes back for his second consecutive season with the Condors. He had an all-star season last year, scoring a Condors rookie record 26 goals, and being named to the ECHL All-Rookie team as well as to the ECHL All-Star team. To view the full roster, click here.
While the Condors get set for the season to begin,
a few of their players are in training camp with teams
in the American Hockey League. Goalie Yutaka Fukufuji, defenseman
Kevin Truelson (with the Condors last year) and
forward
Mark Derlago all are getting
in shape with the Manitoba Moose, while goalie Jamie Hodson stacks the
pads with the Milwaukee Admirals. All players are
expected to be back in Bakersfield when the Condors
camp begins on Oct. 5.

In conjunction with the Condors upcoming 10th Anniversary Season, we continue to shine the spotlight on some of the Condors legends from past years. In this edition of Blast from the Past, we caught up with Jamie Cooke, currently a real estate associate with Sotheby's International Realty. He's second on the Condors all-time list in goals, ranks third in points, assists and games played, and is scheduled to have his jersey No. 28 retired on Saturday, Dec. 15. A special night for Cooke was Feb. 23, 2003, when the team traveled south to play their archrivals, the San Diego Gulls. It was a night in which everything went right for Cooke on both a personal and team level, as the Condors won 6-2. "It was one of those nights where nothing could go wrong," Cooke said. "I may not have played one of my best games, but it was one I will remember for a long time. "I scored four goals in their arena through a combination of great playmaking by Paul Willett and a little luck. Willie had assists on a few of my goals that should have been counted as his goals, as they were done in the Paul Willett fashion that no Condor fan would be surprised to see. "The look of uncertainty on the face of Gulls coach Steve Martinson at the end of the game was a look you couldn't forget. I could almost hear his teeth grinding as his eyes panned back and forth along his bench in bewilderment." To read Cooke's full story of that night, click here.
