Season Ticket Holder Books are a Walk Down Memory Lane
    ticket book

It's always fun to have the opportunity to look back on the moments and players that we used to watch don the Condors uniform and wheel around the Rabobank Arena (and Centennial Garden) ice. Leafing through this year's Season Ticket Holder books is a trip down memory lane. Each of the 41 game tickets features a different player or prominent memory in Condors history.

"It was really a lot of fun deciding the players and moments to go in here," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "Not only did we try and put the top players but also matched them up with dates that made sense."

For example, goalie Danielle Dube played only one game as a Condor, but that victory came on Jan. 11, 2003, so she was put on the Jan. 12 game ticket. Jamie Cooke and Paul Rosebush are having their numbers retired on Dec. 15 and Dec. 29, respectively, so their photos are on those game tickets. It all starts appropriately enough with Jay Neal on the Opening Night ticket, since he scored the first goal in Condors history 10 years ago.

From the first stars like Steve Dowhy and Glen Mears, to today's Condors like Andrew Ianiero and Sean Venedam, we hope the season ticket books serve as a great reminder of all the fun we've had at the games, and all the great athletes that have pulled on a Condors sweater.

Teddy Bears To Take Flight This Saturday

This Saturday's home game against the Las Vegas Wranglers is the annual Teddy Bear Toss night at The Nest, presented by KGET-TV 17, KERN 1410 AM & Wells Fargo Bank. All fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear, or other stuffed animal, to be thrown onto the ice when the Condors score. The teddy bears will be collected and donated to less- fortunate children through the United Way of Kern County. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m., but be sure to get there early so you don't miss the first Condors goal! Condors Announce Coaching Pilot Program
    Corbin

Head Coach Marty Raymond, Assistant Coach Mark Pederson, Goaltending Coach Scott Hay and Director of Hockey Operations Bob Bartlett are integral to the success of the Condors, and have years of experience between them. With that in mind, the Condors and the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center are proud to embark on a pilot program for hockey coaches in Kern County.

As the hub of hockey in the Golden Empire, the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center is home to a fast- growing minor hockey association. Players of all ages and levels are learning from their coaches every day, and just like in any other profession, those coaches are looking to improve their skills and knowledge to become better. This program will provide coaches the opportunity to shadow the Condors coaching staff for a series of games and get a first-hand look at the pro game from a coach's vantage point.

Over the course of four games, the coaches will be exposed to pre-game preparation including coordinating drills, learning strategies and theories, and observing specific game management aspects such as face-offs or special-teams units.

"We're excited to be part of such a cutting-edge program here," Team President Matthew Riley said. "Our coaches are outstanding and understand the importance of giving back to the community, and this is just another way they're involved."

Steve Corbin (pictured above on the bench on Nov. 18) had the honor of being the first coach to participate in the new program. He can be found at the rink in downtown Bakersfield most nights and early Saturday mornings, volunteering countless hours.

"It was definitely different than what I'm used to working with the kids," said Corbin. "It's more business out there. The speed of the game is so much faster and it's funny because you really don't realize how much faster it is when you're sitting up top in the stands. You can feel the frustration of the players getting back to the bench; you hear the coaches calling out the lines - it's been great."

Coaches looking to get involved with the program can contact Scott Hay at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center at (661) 852-7400.

    Condors Coach's Show

Here's a sample from the latest "Bartl's Back" blog by Condors Vice President of Communications Kevin Bartl:

"Initial thoughts from the road and my first couple days "back" in Condorstown... Hotels:

... Mark Pederson likes it cold. I'm glad the hotel in Reading provided me with eight inches of blankets. It was 50 degrees outside and he's got the air conditioning on. Although he swears he didn't turn it on, I don't believe him.

... While I'm at it, my favorite town names in North America are as follows (in no particular order): Horseheads, NY; Shafter, CA; Moose Jaw, SK; Corkscrew, FL; Truth Or Consequences, NM."

    "Sold For 2,150 Dollars!"
    venny auction

The Bakersfield Condors held the first Jersey Off Our Backs Raffle and Auction of the year Sunday Nov. 18, raising a total of $21,475 for the Ronald McDonald House Charities. The Condors jersey auctions, which date back to the inaugural 1998-99 season, are approaching the half million dollar mark with more than $480,000 raised for area organizations.

    Blast from the Past
    seanvenedam

In this Condors newsletter we take a look back at one of the more recent Xtreme memories - it came on December 2 of last season, when the Condors trounced the Long Beach Ice Dogs 10-2 at Rabobank Arena.

Bakersfield scored four times in the first period, and added three more in both the second and third frames. Sean Venedam and Kevin St. Jacques led the way with 2g-2a each, while Andrew Ianiero, Brett Lutes, Josh Liebenow, Joel Irving, Steve Rodberg and Kevin Truelson also lit the lamp for the Condors.

"I've been on the other end of a game like that but never the winning side of things," said Venedam, recalling that memorable night. "It's funny how things happen... it just seemed like everything on net was going in. It was fun to be a part of."

No Condors team had ever reached double digits in a single game prior to that night. "The biggest thing about a game like that is that you're hoping you didn't drain yourself of all your offense, and it seems like things like that happen a lot," Venedam said. "I don't think you want those nights too often to be honest with you."

Luckily for the Condors, that night seemed to spark their offense, as they rattled off 26 goals in their next five games, scoring at least six times in three of those contests.
