The Condors are in the Last Frontier for three games against the Alaska Aces. The series got underway Wednesday night, when Bakersfield dropped the first of three, 4-1. The teams retake the slab for the second of three on Friday, Dec. 7 and then finish the series on Saturday, Dec. 8. Both games are slated to start at 8:15 p.m. PT, and can be heard on the All-New KGEO AM1230 and www.bakersfieldcondors.com. The games can also be viewed online through B2 Networks.

Condors Highlight their History with 10th Anniversary Jerseys
    10th anny auction jersey

The Condors were proud to don commemorative 10th Anniversary Specialty Jerseys for the game on Nov. 18 as a fundraiser for the Ronald McDonald House. At the end of the night, $21,475 was generated through the live auction of the jerseys.

The jerseys featured 10 newspaper-style headlines from the most memorable and exciting moments in Condors history, accompanied by images of prominent former players. An 'X' adorns the center of the jerseys, representing the team's 10th Anniversary theme, while the names of 40 prominent players and individuals, whose names have become synonymous with Condors hockey, are listed around the bottom of the jerseys in Stanley Cup fashion. "Condorstown" replaces "Bakersfield" down the left sleeve, in similar style to the team's popular black jerseys. On the opposite shoulder is the Condors official 10th Anniversary logo.

The pictured players are Steve Dowhy, Jamie Cooke, Glen Mears, Quinn Fair, Paul Willett, Ken Baker, Kevin St. Pierre, Connor James, Paul Rosebush and Kevin St. Jacques. Headlines include Baker's storybook victory between the pipes, the team's record Teddy Bear Toss collection of 7,149 stuffed animals in 2004, St. Pierre claiming the WCHL Most Valuable Player award, and the team's thrilling 11-0 start in the 1999-00 season, among others.

"We're excited about these jerseys because they reminded us of all the great moments we've seen and been a part of," said Condors President Matthew Riley. "Everyone has their own favorite memories in Condors history, and it was difficult to narrow it down to only 10 moments. But it was a lot of fun to reflect on all the thrilling memories."

Fans wishing to purchase these replica jerseys (seen above) can do so at the next Condors game on Dec. 12, or at the Condors Team Store, located at 1022 Truxtun Ave., right across the street from Rabobank Arena.

Condors Fans Continue to Fill The Nest
    fans

The Condors are currently ranked second in the league in average attendance, bringing in 6,627 fans per game. Bakersfield's season-high attendance came on Nov. 24 for the Teddy Bear Toss, when 8,895 fans filled The Nest for a standing-room-only crowd. That attendance mark ranks second on the Condors all-time single-game attendance list, only behind the 9,129 fans that were in attendance on Feb. 19, 2000. Thank you Condors fans for your unwavering support!

    Condors Fans #1 in Giving

The trumpet has sounded and the proud fans of Condorstown have been called to action again. After generous fans donated nearly 2,200 coats in the Warm Families Coat Collection and over 7,000 stuffed animals during the 9th Annual Teddy Bear Toss, children who otherwise would not be receiving Christmas gifts this holiday season will be beneficiaries of the Condors Toy Drive, to be held on Wednesday, Dec. 12 at The Nest.

Fans can bring a new, unwrapped toy and receive $1.00 terrace admission to Wednesday's game. Tables with collection boxes will be set up on the plaza outside Rabobank Arena for the gifts. The toys will be given to local children who have been identified by their teachers as likely to not receive any other Christmas gift during the Holiday season. All donations will be personally handed out during the Stay Focused annual Christmas giveaway.

Blast From The Past - Wild night vs. Anchorage, Dec. 4, 1999
    mears

The Condors make their first trip of the season to Anchorage this week to take on the Alaska Aces, renewing a rivalry that goes back to the early days of the WCHL. In particular, one night early in Condors history may have ratcheted up the rivalry a notch, when on December 4, 1999, the Condors piled up a team- record 116 penalty minutes.

Anchorage native and Condors legend Glen Mears recalls plenty of battles between the two clubs, and several during that season in particular. "We had some huge penalty minute games against the Aces. I don't even remember which one was the highest," he says with a chuckle.

"Anchorage and Bakersfield were two of the founding teams in the West Coast Hockey League, and back then I think we played each other 12 times a year, so that gives you plenty of time to start a rivalry. They always had a great following and a tough team - Anchorage fans love tough teams. Plus they had a lot of guys that were local, and I used to see them all the time when I went home in the summer so that always made it more interesting for me."

Mears finished that 99-00 season with 145 penalty minutes, ranking fifth, while four Condors players had over 200 PIMs that season. As for the game, the Aces prevailed, 3-2 in a shootout.

    All-10th Anniversary Team Announced
    10th anniversary team

The Bakersfield Condors announced the All-10th Anniversary Team at the game on Saturday, Dec. 1. The team was unveiled during a special ceremony in the first intermission, in which the selected players still living in the area came onto the Condors bench to be honored.

"It was a great honor. I finished my career in Bakersfield and stayed here because of the support from the great fans," said first team member Jamie Cooke. "Now, after five and a half years, to be known as one of the contributing Condors is an honor. It was fun to be on the bench in such great company with players like Paul Willett and Paul Rosebush."

In addition to the players currently on the roster, Jamie Cooke, Paul Rosebush, Paul Willett, Glen Mears, Kevin St. Jacques and Quinn Fair were all present for the ceremony.

"It is a great testimony to the city of Bakersfield and Condors fans to see how many members of the All- 10th Anniversary Team have called Bakersfield home after their playing days," first team member, and Bakersfield resident, Glen Mears said. "I was privileged to play with such a talented group, and am still privileged to now call them my friends."
