Everyone knows what the holiday season brings and that is yummy desserts! We asked our Condors what their favorite guilty pleasure was and they said cookies, pies and cakes. Throughout the season the players must watch their diets, so when it comes to the holidays they splurge for their favorites. Condors goalie Jamie Hodson loves his families gingerbread cookie recipe and we’ve asked him to share the recipe with us so that you could savor the flavor all for yourself! INGREDIENTS: DIRECTIONS:
Hey Condors fans, mark your calendars for Dec. 23 when Diego’s cousin Dora will return to Condorstown to meet fans and take pictures as the Condors take on the Utah Grizzlies.
The Condors would like to welcome corporate partner Goodwill Industries back for another season. Goodwill Industries has been a proud sponsor of the Condors for many years. ”We are proud to be part of a relationship with an organization that has grown rapidly over the years,” said David Hessberger, goodwill director of retail operations. “We love the fact that the Condors believe in year around community support rather than just during the off-season. We like to be associated with first class teams since we ourselves are a first class organization. We are happy to help the Condors make Kern County a better place.” Goodwill Industries is a nonprofit organization established to provide employment and employment- related services for people with disabilities and other special needs and to assist these individuals to become more independent and self-sufficient. Goodwill operates eight retail thrift stores in Kern County. The store proceeds go directly to support Goodwill services and programs. To visit a Goodwill store, visit http://www.centcalgoodwill.org/donatioonsmain.html to find the store closest to you.
The Condors’ Mailbag has been integrated into the Condors website as a way to answer questions regarding the team, front office and organization. The coaches and front office will answer all relative questions. If you’d like to ask a question or check out some other questions the Condors’ Mailbag is displayed on the Condors homepage. Q: Can you please tell the people who bang their cowbells on the railings to stop? I really don’t mind the noise at the game, and the cowbells by themselves are loud enough, but when you bang them on the railing it becomes downright irritating. A: It is somewhat shocking that fans would actually hit cowbells on arena railings, but under no circumstances should this be allowed. While we all like a loud arena, we don’t want people to go deaf. Of additional concern is the damage it would eventually cause to city property. We’re very fortunate to play in an arena that has been kept up as well as it has. When people still call a nine-year old building “new”, that’s a real positive. We want our “house” to be in the best condition it possibly can be, and hope everyone is in agreement with that. Moving forward we will be making an announcement during the game in regards to this issue and all arena staff will be instructed to stop any person from hitting city property with any item, cowbells or other. Thanks for your input and Go Condors! Matthew Riley, President
Condors Defenseman Steve Rodberg is used to spending his holidays back home in Duluth, MN. After taking a year off from hockey to finish school, Rodberg is here in Bakersfield and his oh-so-familiar Christmas traditions are in the past. The memories he remembers most is spending Christmas Eve with his mom and Christmas day with his dad. Christmas Eve consisted of dinner, opening presents and playing games. Rodberg’s favorite game to play was charades and he is standing by his unbeatable acting skills. Christmas day with his dad was pure “craziness” and entertainment. After the family finished their holiday meal and opened gifts they headed out to the snow for a day of sledding. “The good times I experienced in Duluth are irreplaceable,” Rodberg said. “Even though I will be experiencing the holidays differently this year I can say that they will always be a tradition I remember. This season marks the start of many new beginnings for Rodberg - a fresh start at hockey, new holiday traditions to begin and lots of memories to make. Rodberg’s decision to play hockey again this year came with a little persuasion. With the strong desire to get back in the game and good friends and teammates, Josh Liebenow and Sean Venedam, pushing the decision, Rodberg agreed to play here in Bakersfield. This year Rodberg will be spending his Christmas in Phoenix, AZ. with his brother and his sister. In route to their new house in Phoenix, Rodberg’s mom and step-dad will stop in Bakersfield to watch Rodberg play on the 23rd. After the game, Rodberg will travel with his family for the completion of their trip. Phoenix is where his new holiday memories will begin. This year Rodberg set his hopes high to receive a chocolate lab puppy for Christmas and a PSP so he has a special friend to come home to after the long road trips and something to keep him busy while the team travels.
