98-save weekend earns Stewart ECHL Goaltender of the Week Honors

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The ECHL announced today that Condors G Brian Stewart has been named ECHL Reebok Hockey Goaltender of the Week for February 11-17. Stewart backstopped the Condors to a weekend sweep of Colorado at Rabobank Arena.

“Stewy was a machine out there this weekend,” said Condors Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Matt O’Dette. “He is used to being a workhorse and has shown in his career that he can get hot at this time of year. We have two great goaltenders who we need to get hot for us down the stretch and that appears to be the case.”

Stewart, who celebrates his 28th birthday today, was phenomenal forthe Condors over the weekend, making 98 saves on 99 shots, in two victories over the Eagles. He finished the week 2-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average and a .990 save percentage.

On Friday night, the Burnaby, British Columbia native turned aside 52 of a possible 53 shots, a new ECHL season-high, in a 4-1 Condors win. He was named the game’s number one star.

The 6’4″, 194 lbs., third-year pro followed up his Friday night effort with a 46-save, 1-0 shutout performance against Colorado on Saturday. Stewart made 37 of those stops in the second and third periods combined as the Condors won their third straight with him between the pipes. 

Winning ECHL Goaltender of the Week for the third time in his career, Stewart has appeared in 98 ECHL games with Bakersfield, Elmira, and Greenville with an overall record of 53-36-5 with three shutouts, a 2.74 goals-against average, and a save percentage of .917. He has also appeared in 10 games with the Adirondack Phantoms of the American Hockey League.

Stewart and the Condors look for their fourth straight win in Las Vegas TONIGHT against the Wranglers at 7:05 p.m. Ryan Holt has the call, beginning with Condors Countdown at 6:50 p.m.
