The Bakersfield Condors announced today that Piero Greco has been hired as the team’s goaltending coach beginning with the 2026-27 season. He takes over for Kelly Guard.

Greco, 59, served as the New York Islanders goaltending coach from 2018 until last season and helped develop the careers of Ilya Sorokin, Semyon Varlamov, Robin Lehner, and Tomas Greiss. In 2019, he helped the organization secure the William Jennings Trophy presented annually to the NHL team which allowed the fewest goals. Twice, Sorokin in 2023 and Lehner in 2019, his goaltenders were Vezina Trophy finalists, presented annually to the league’s top netminder.

Prior to his NHL career, Greco was the goaltending coach for the Toronto Marlies (AHL) from 2014-18 where he helped the organization win the Calder Cup in 2018 with Garret Sparks winning the Baz Bastien Award as goaltender of the year and the duo of Sparks and Calvin Pickard winning the Harry “Hap” Holmes Award for the lowest goals against average as a team.

Greco will be on hand when the Condors open training camp on Monday.
