Verreault, McKenzie, & Narbonne join team

CONDORSTOWN, Calif.– The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, announced today that the team has added RW Francis VerreaultRW Jim McKenzie, and D Jonathan Narbonne to the training camp roster for the upcoming 2014-15 season.

VERREAULT “VEH-row” – stats; 27 years old, 5’10”, 188 lbs., Roberval, Quebec
  • Had seven points (3g-4a) in 13 games with Orlando in 2013-14 before finishing the season in Norway with Tonsberg
  • Was acquired by Bakersfield from Greenville on Dec. 31, 2012 and played 28 games for the Condors with 26 points (9g-17a)
  • Including his Greenville numbers, led the Condors in assists (31), points (47), and was second in penalty minutes (152) in 60 games
  • Named to the 2013 ECHL All-Star Team
  • Had an 11-game point streak (4g-9a) from Jan. 1 – 25, 2013 with Bakersfield, tied for the Condors longest scoring streak in the last five seasons
“He’s the type of player teams hate to play against,” said Condors Head Coach J.F. Houle. “He can score and brings a gritty game. He will be a great asset for us.”
MCKENZIE “mih – KEN – zee” – stats; 30 years old, 6’2″, 215 lbs., St. Paul, Minnesota
  • Will attend Oklahoma City training camp
  • Played 26 games with the Iowa Wild of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2013-14 with eight points (3g-5a)
  • A veteran entering his eighth professional season having played 359 games at the AHL, ECHL, and Central Hockey League (CHL) levels
  • Won a CHL Ray Miron President’s Cup with Allen in 2012-13
  • Won a NCAA Frozen Four Championship in 2007 with Michigan State

“He has a good amount of experience at the next level and is a big body who can come in and be a leader to help our younger players,” Houle said.

NARBONNE “narr – bone” – stats; 21 years old, 6’0″, 183 lbs., Laval, Quebec
  • Played 58 games during his rookie season with Gwinnett where he registered 17 points (2g-15a)
  • Had 104 points (23g-81a) in 229 games in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with four teams including 27 games under Houle in 2011-12 for Blainville-Boisbriand
  • Led all Moncton defensemen in 2012-13 with 40 points (9g-31a) in 57 games
  • Won the Kevin Lowe Trophy as the QMJHL’s Best Defensive Defenseman in 2012-13
  • Won a Memorial Cup with Shawinigan in 2011-12

“He is a guy who is fun to be around and sacrifices his body for the team,” Houle said. “With this being his second-year pro, there should be offensive upside to his game as well. He has a team-first attitude and we are happy to bring him to Bakersfield.”
