Condors in the Community: Blood Drive Month kicks off Tuesday

Condors and Houchin kick off Blood Drive Month:

The Condors and Houchin Blood Bank are holding their annual Blood Drive through the month of March. If you donate blood at Houchin Blood Bank located at 5901 Truxtun Ave. you will receive a $1 admission voucher to the March 16th or March 23rd game which is the My 45, KUZZ 107.9, and HouchinBlood Blood Bank Blood Drive Night. Also by donating blood during the month of March prior to the 23rd, you are entered to win a chance to sit in the “Best Seat in the House” provided by R&D Leather Furniture at the March 23rd game, or even a Condors jersey signed by the team and an opportunity to drop the ceremonial first puck at a Condors game.

The Condors and KUZZ 107.9 will be promoting the Blood Drive on Thursday, March. 10th from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Houchin Blood Bank, where the Condors and KUZZ will have informational booths set up as well as giveaways. In addition, select Condors players and broadcaster Bob Mills will also be on hand to sign autographs and even donate blood themselves. Wednesday, Mar. 2

The Condors will help celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday by participating in National Read Across America Day Wednesday morning. Multiple Condors staff volunteered to read a book to schools in Kern County. They will be visiting schools such as Beardsley Elementary, Veterans Elementary, Fairview Elementary, Nichols Elementary, and as far as Browning Road School in McFarland and Princeton Street Elementary in Delano. All three of your Condors mascots will also be joining the staff to help act out the scenes of the books and interact with the students.

Thursday, Mar. 3

Join Kevin Bartl as he hosts “Condors Insider”, Thursday from 6 to 7 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 970 AM. Tune in for interviews with players and staff, news and notes from around the ECHL and other features. Plus, don’t miss the ECHL Plays of the Week and the eagerly anticipated next segment of Frasnelly’s Over/Under.

Friday, Mar. 4

Read Across America Week ends with the Condors making two CatintheHatfinal stops at Elementary Schools. Colonel Claw’d and staff will be at North Beardsley Elementary located at 900 Sanford Dr. from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. The Colonel will then head over to Wingland Elementary located at 701 Douglas St. from 10 to 11 p.m. to act out scenes to a book that will be read aloud.

The 11th annual Tip-A-Condor Dinner has been scheduled for Monday, March 21st at fishlips located at 1517 18th St., in downtown Bakersfield. The event turns Condors players into waiters and entertainers for the night in an effort to collect tips for charity. All the proceeds will benefit the Kern County Shrine Club. This night also includes a live and silent auction.

Tickets are $25 and include a choice of dinner options, and may be purchased in the Condors office, at any Condors home game, or at fishlips. Doors open at 5 p.m. and dinner will start at 6 p.m. For more information call the Condors office at 324-PUCK(7825).

Condors Kids Club Meet the Team Party will be held on Monday, March 7th at Rollerama West, located at 7850 Brimhall Rd. from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. This event is open to all Kids Club members and their parents to meet and skate with the Condors. Each Kids Club member will receive free skate rental, a hot dog or pizza slice, and soda. Members’ siblings and parents may rent skates for $5, and food will be available for purchase. The Condors take a week away from home ice as they travel to Victoria for this week’s games. They return home for a three game series against the Idaho Steelheads, starting on Tuesday, March 8. The Condors are hosting a Canned Food Drive, courtesy of My 45, 96.5 Max FM, and Payments Systems Worldwide. Fans who donate two non-perishable food items can receive $1 Terrace Admission to the game. All canned food items will then be donated to the Golden Empire Gleaners, who distribute the food to those in need throughout Kern County. It is also Bud Light Half Price Beer Night where fans can enjoy half price beer served in Condors cups until the end of the 1st intermission. Doors open at 6 p.m., puck drops at 7 p.m.
