The Bakersfield Condors trailed 2-0 after one a night ago and could not recover in a 4-3 season-opening loss to the Silver Knights. Henderson has now won four of the last five meetings at Lee’s Family Forum in the all-time series.
POWERED DOWN
Bakersfield received the first three power plays of the game last night, but could not convert in the first period. They eventually went 0/5 on the man advantage before a late 6-on-4 marker. Last season, the Condors had the sixth best power play at just over 22%.
ON THE ROAD – GET USED TO IT
Road life will be common for the Condors for the first four weeks of the regular season. Nine of the team’s first 11 games will come away from downtown Condorstown including trips to Henderson, Calgary, Colorado, and three games in San Jose from now until November 10.
COACHING STAFF SHAKEUP
Two new faces joined the Condors coaching staff in the offseason with the additions of Duncan Dalmao and Piero Greco. Dalmao spent four seasons as the head coach of the Indy Fuel (ECHL), leading the team to four straight Kelly Cup Playoffs berths. He will serve as an assistant coach with the Condors. Greco has an extensive resume as a goaltending coach, most recently spending eight seasons with the New York Islanders.
PICKING UP WHERE HE LEFT OFF
Quinn Hutson was named to the AHL’s All-Rookie Team a season ago, tying a team goal scoring record with 30. He finished second in the rookie scoring race with 63 points in 67 games. Last night, he scored on the power play to open up his sophomore account.
BOXCAR FILLER
Josh Brown paced the team with two assists a night ago and had a fighting major. The London, Ontario native set a new career high with 13 points from the blue line last season.
THREE IN THE THIRD
Bakersfield scored three times in the third period last night, including the first of the season for Conor Clattenburg. He scored twice and had a team record 131 penalty minutes a year ago in 31 games.
RETRIBUTION
Daniel D’Amato scored against his former club last night. He had 11 goals two seasons with Bakersfield and nine last season.
TOMMER TIME
Matt Tomkins is expected to get his first start of the season tonight. He set a new career high for wins with 20 last season going 20-13-7 with a 2.98 goals-against average and .904 save percentage.
