Bakersfield knocks of Utah 3-1

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah RW Stephane Goulet scored twice to lead the Bakersfield Condors (41-27-2-1, 85pts) to a 3-1 victory over the Utah Grizzlies (32-32-4-3, 71pts) in front of 10,700 fans at the Maverick Center on Friday night.

A physical first period was scoreless past the halfway point, before the Condors jumped out to a 1-0 advantage. While on the power play, Goulet controlled a feed from F Andrew Ianiero and fired shot past G Andrew Engelage at 13:05 to give Bakersfield the lead.


A rough and tumble game continued through the second period, with neither team able to crack the scoresheet. Goulet picked up his second goal of the night at 11:21 of the third establishing a 2-0 Bakersfield lead. Just over two minutes later, C Hugo Carpentier picked up a shorthanded goal to cut the Condors lead back to just one goal. The Condors and G Brian Stewart held strong, and F Andrew Ianiero finished off the contest by collecting an empty-netter to close out the contest. Stewart made 39 saves to earn the victory for Bakersfield.

RW Erick Lizon served the first game of a two-game ECHL suspension tonight.
