Condors can’t hold on against Alaska, fall 4-3 in OT

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (5-11-2-0, 12pts) couldn’t hold off the Alaska Aces (11-4-1-0, 23pts), who came from behind twice in the third period and won in overtime, 4-3 Tuesday night in front 3,480 at Rabobank Arena.

The Condors drew first blood with LW Matt Marquardt rapping in his eighth of the season at 11:26 of the opening period. Both clubs put nine shots on goal in the frame, which featured a goaltending matchup of G Matt Keetley for Bakersfield and G Gerald Coleman for the Aces.

Bakersfield extended the lead early in the middle stanza. C Mathew Sisca chipped home a centering feed from Condors leading scorer RW Scott Freeman to make it 2-0 at 6:44. Keetley stopped an additional 15 shots in the period to hold the lead for the home team.

The lead disappeared in the first 5:28 of the third period. C Brian Swanson and RW Wes Goldie lit the lamp to tie the game up at 2-2 for Alaska. Sisca scored his second of the night at 10:09 to regain the lead for Bakersfield, but it wouldn’t last. Former Condors F Dan Kissel notched his ninth of the season with 5:38 left in regulation to force overtime.

In the extra session, RW Gary Nunn moved around the Condors defense and found the back of the net with his fourth of the season to steal the win.
