Condors Doubled up by Utah, 6-3

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah – F Paul McIlveen scored four times and added an assist as the Utah Grizzlies (17-18-0-4, 38pts) turned a 3-3 hockey game in the third period into a lopsided 6-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (9-27-3-1, 22pts) on Thursday night at the Maverik Center.

The Grizzlies scored on their first shot of the game when C Mitch Fadden snapped a wrist shot over the blocker of Condors G Matt Keetley at the 2:13 mark of the 1st period. Bakersfield responded on the power play when RW Alain Goulet scored his sixth of the season from right-wing circle to tie game at 1-1, 7:02 into the frame. The Condors remained tight defensively, limiting Utah to five shots and taking 10 themselves.

A back-and-forth 2nd period saw two Grizzlies goals sandwiched around two Condors tallies. Utah climbed back in front, 2-1, when McIlveen scored a power-play goal at 8:34. Bakersfield then scored twice in the span of 62 seconds with LW Jesse Gimblett scoring his ninth of the year at 12:06 and C Robby Dee tallying his 14th of the year at 13:08 to put the Condors in front for the only time, 3-2. The Grizzlies answered with their second power-play goal, 15:36 into the period, when D Nick Tuzzolino one-timed a pass behind Keetley to tie it up at 3-3. Shots were 18-9 in favor of Utah.

After a tight start to the third period, McIlveen lit the lamp three times in the final 7:34 to give the Grizzlies a 6-3 victory. Shots were even at 11-11. 

Condors Droppings:  

Tonight was the fifth of seven consecutive meetings between the two sides in Utah. The Condors will host the Grizzlies five times… G Matt Keetley made his first start since returning from Syracuse (AHL) on Sunday…RW Alain Goulet’s goal was his fourth as a forward. Wrapping up on the road tomorrow

The Condors are in Utah  tomorrow for a 6:05 Pacific start time. They return for a six game home stand at the tail end of January through early February.They host the Alaska Aces on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and host the Ontario Reign on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 27 and 28.
