GAME PREVIEW: CONDORS v GULLS
The Bakersfield Condors welcome the San Diego Gulls for the first time this season and the first of two on the weekend. In the team’s only previous matchup, Bakersfield took a 4-1 decision in San Diego back on Nov. 24, 2017.WHO ARE YOU?
The Condors and Gulls meet for just the second time tonight. After playing San Diego just once in their first 40 games, the Condors will square off with the Gulls in seven of their next 22 games (31.8%).
KILLING ME SOFTLY
Bakersfield’s penalty kill was a perfect six-for-six on Tuesday in Rockford. The Condors have not allowed a power-play goal in 10 of their last 11 games and have killed off 36 of 38 (94.7%) opponent power plays. That will be put to the test tonight as San Diego’s power play is the best in the AHL at 25.6%.
CONDORS NOTES
Bakersfield has the 10th best home power play in the AHL at 17.7%… RW Evan Polei, recalled from Wichita (ECHL) yesterday, had eight points (3g-5a) in his last eight games with the Thunder…The Condors are 6-3-2 (.636) over their last 11 games… Saturday/Tuesday was the first time the Condors had lost back-to-back games in regulation since Nov. 17 and 18… Bakersfield is the only team in the AHL to not allow a shootout goal this season (4/4 in two victories).
GULLS NOTES
The Gulls have converted on 20 of their 79 road power plays (25.3%), tops in the AHL… Rookie Giovanni Fiore is third among rookies in shots with 101… D Andy Welinski, who will represent San Diego at the upcoming AHL All-Star Classic, is t-12th among d-men in scoring with 22 points (6g-16a). 13 of his 16 assists have come on the power play.
