HOLTY’S BLOG: UP THE 99 (AGAIN)

The bus will take off without me, we know this, so no time to waste as we dive head first into a Thursday travel day blog edition.

You may prefer non-rushed blogs, and that’s fine, but as I’ll remind you, it’s my blog and I’ll do what I want.

Now for the blog…

Interviews from last night’s Condors Insider with Derik Johnson and Joe Gambardella are now up for your listening pleasure.

Sidenote: Thanksgiving with the Gambardella clan just sounds like a good time.

The Condors swapped forwards today as Zach O’Brien joins the team on the road and Chad Butcher heads down to Wichita.

O’Brien was a point-per-game guy with Wichita and won a Calder Cup with Manchester in 2015. For a Condors team in the bottom five in goal production, the team is looking for anything to get the offense jumpstarted.

Last I’ll talk about it, but 12 penalties against on Saturday in Tucson, for the (then) least penalized team in the league was something. If that’s how it’s going to be called moving forward (which it won’t) then that’s not hockey that I want to be a part of ever.

The Condors power play has been on a steady climb as of late and as mentioned in the interview with DJ, I think a lot of it has to do with the blue line work of Dillon Simpson. There’s nothing flashy from him on the point, but he gets shots through and puts the puck in positions to be redirected.

Had a chance to join Jason Galvin and the group over at KGET-17 (NBC) this morning with Kern County Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Smith. Really looking forward to not only Teddy Bear Toss next Saturday, but also the Guns N Hoses game at 2 p.m.

As I’ve often said in the blog, I’m always in awe of people who do jobs that I could never do. Fire and police are two of those jobs and I’m thankful for all they do.

This is what we call a “brawl” nowadays? As Gerry Fleming likes to say “the game just isn’t what it used to be.”

Both games this weekend are on at The Padre and on Fox Sports 970. Friday’s at 7 p.m., Saturday’s at 6 p.m. from up the 99.

LOCK OF THE WEEK: The locks have hit the skids a bit lately after Notre Dame’s embarrassing loss last week. Let’s get back on the right track. Colin Cowherd does “The Blazin’ 5” for his NFL picks. Let’s piggy back off that. Love Philadelphia (-4) at Dallas, Seattle (-2.5) home to Atlanta, New England (-7.5) in Mexico against Oakland, Minnesota (-1) home to the Rams, and the upset of the week, the Bears (+2.5) at home to Detroit. I think the Bears win that game too.

Until next time Condorstown…

Ryan Holt aka Holty is the voice of the Condors in his 7th season. New guy Chad Howard joined the office this week and claims his favorite breakfast cereal is Lucky Charms. He’s a-ok in my book. Follow him on Twitter @CondorsHolty for more nonsense or shoot him an e-mail to RHolt@bakersfieldcondors.com with questions, comments, or blog ideas.
