BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Idaho Steelheads (4-7-1-1, 10pts) held off a furious rally by the Bakersfield Condors (5-7-1-0, 11pts) to take a 4-3 victory in front of 4,924 fans at Rabobank Arena Friday night.

Highlights from tonight’s game on CondorsTV

The two teams skated to a scoreless draw in the opening frame. Bakersfield played a physical first period, with plenty of hits and a fight between Condors LW Jesse Gimblett and Idaho F Michael Neal. Bakersfield held Idaho to just two shots on goal.

Idaho put two past G Bryan Pitton in the first four minutes of the middle frame and eventually took a 3-0 lead. F Jacob Cepis, F Aaron Lewadniuk and F David Fredriksson all lit the lamp for the visitors. Bakersfield  notched their first of the game from C Thomas Frazee to make it 3-1 with his first professional goal, but Idaho quickly answered to regain the three-goal lead before the end of the frame.

In the third, Condors LW Matt Marquardt cut into the Steelheads lead by lighting the lamp twice in the span of less than four minutes. His first, a redirection at 11:04, made it 4-2. At 14:39 the alternate captain blasted home his sixth of the season on the power play to make it a one-goal game. But the equalizer eluded the Condors, who outshot Idaho 41-27 on the night.
