MacNeil and Verpaelst added to roster

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, owned by the Edmonton Oilers, announced today that the team has agreed to terms with F Nick MacNeil and D Gabriel Verpaelst for the 2014-15 season.

MACNEIL
 – stats / 25 years old / 6’4″, 215 lbs. / Creignish, Nova Scotia
  • Joined the Condors in March of 2013-14 following a four-year career at the University of NewBrunswick (CIS) and played in nine regular season games with six points (2g-4a)
  • After leaving the team to finish school, MacNeil returned to Bakersfield for the second and third rounds of the playoffs where he notched two points (1g-1a) in six games
  • Had 87 points (40g-47a) in 104 games with UNB, tied for the team lead with 15 goals in 2012-13, and was named to the CIS All-Rookie Team in 2010-11 when the Varsity Reds won a CIS University Cup
  • Played four-plus seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) with Cape Breton and in 254 games, registered 181 points (99g-82a)
“I really enjoyed my time in Bakersfield last season,” MacNeil said. “I was impressed with the organization and received positive feedback on my play. It was good to get a feel for the pro game at the end of the season and it will help this year.”
“He’s a very good player,” said Condors Head Coach J.F. Houle. “Nick is a physical forward up front who has skill as well. After talking with his coaches they liked what he did for their teams and he was a leader in college.”


VERPAELST
“ver-PLAST” – stats / 20 years old / 6’0″ / 195 lbs. / Sherbrooke, Quebec

  • Played 262 games over four seasons with Baie-Comeau (QMJHL) and amassed 66 points (21g-45a) from the blue line
  • Led the Drakkar in penalty minutes during three of his four seasons with a high of 173 over 66 games in 2011-12 when he finished second in the QMJHL in that category
  • Helped lead Baie-Comeau to the QMJHL’s President Cup Final each of the last two seasons, appearing in 39 playoff games with five goals and 11 assists for 16 points
  • Baie-Comeau eliminated Blainville-Boisbriand, coached by Houle, in the third round of the playoffs the past two seasons.
“I know Gabriel from my time in the QMJHL,” Houle said. “He’s a big, strong defenseman who plays extremely tough. He will be a nice addition to our team.”
MacNeil and Verpaelst join previously announced LW Chase Schaber and D Nick Pageau on the team’s roster.
