Martin is the hero in 4-3 Condors Comeback

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Jimmy Martin scored twice, including the game winner in overtime, as the Bakersfield Condors (5-6-1-0, 11pts) defeated the Idaho Steelheads (3-7-1-1, 8pts), 4-3 in front of 3,443 at Rabobank Arena Thursday night.

The Steelheads scored twice in the first seven minutes of the game to take the early lead. F Chad Nehring sent a wrister past G Bryan Pitton at 3:10, then F Kael Mouillierat punched home a rebound on the power play at 6:39. The period ended 2-0, and though the Condors led in shots 15-11 they were unable to get the puck past Idaho G Jerry Kuhn.

Idaho extended the lead just 27 seconds into the middle frame on F Aaron Lewadniuk’s one-timer. After that, however, it was all Condors. C Mathew Sisca chipped in his fifth of the season just 42 seconds later. The Condors outshot the Steelheads 19-5 in the period and closed the deficit to just one when D Jimmy Martin snapped home his first of the season at 19:06 to make it 3-2.

It took nearly the entire third period but the Condors finally completed the comeback. While shorthanded, D Alain Goulet joined the rush and wristed home his second of the season with just 45 seconds left in regulation. In overtime, Martin took a shot that missed the net, but he picked up the rebound off the end boards and knocked it in for the game winner.
