Stewart named ECHL Goaltender of the Week

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, announced today the ECHL has named G Brian Stewart the Goaltender of the Week for his performance from Mar. 21-27.

Stewart, 26, manned the net for the Condors in all three games last week, posting a 3-0-0 week for the second time during the team’s current 11-0-0 streak. Stewart surrendered just one goal and made 37 saves in a 2-1 victory over the Victoria Salmon Kings on Wednesday. He Brian Stewartfollowed that up with a 3-1 win against Las Vegas on Friday in which he made 30 saves. The Burnaby, British Columbia, native then turned in his first professional shutout with a 24-save effort on Saturday in a 2-0 triumph over the Wranglers again.

Under contract to the Philadelphia Flyers, who assigned him to Bakersfield on Jan. 7, Stewart has set a new Condors record by posting a 10-game winning streak that began on Mar. 4. He has started all but one game of the team’s current win streak, and has climbed up the league rankings to 2nd in goals against average (2.23) and a league-best .927 save percentage.

It is the second Goaltender of the Week award for Stewart this season. The rookie claimed the American Hockey League honor for the week of Dec. 27-Jan. 2 with Philadelphia’s affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, just prior to being assigned to Bakersfield. G Josh Tordjman claimed back-to-back Goaltender of the Week awards back in December.
