Stewart named ECHL Rookie of the Month for March

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, announced today that goaltender Brian Stewart has been named the ECHL Rookie of the Month for March.

Stewart, 26, collected a 10-2-0 record during March and helped the Condors to set club records for consecutive wins on home ice as well as overall wins at home in a season. Stewart won a club record 10 straight games during the month, surpassing the old record of 9

The Burnaby, B.C. native also earned his first career shutout when the Condors defeated Las Vegas 2-0 on March 26th. He allowed two goals or less in 9 of the 12 games he started during the month, and only one goal in 6 of those games. The 6-4, 194 pound netminder also saved 30 or more shots 6 times during the month.

Stewart was named to the ECHL All-Rookie Team last week, after compiling a 20-6-1 record in 29 appearances on the season. He posted a league-best .927 save percentage and was second with a 2.25 GAA. He was named ECHL Goalie of the Week for March 21st – 27th and was the runner-up for ECHL Goaltender of the Month for March.

Under contract to the Philadelphia Flyers, he was assigned to the Condors at the beginning of January. In 10 games in the American Hockey League with Adirondack, he posted a 4-5-0 record with a 3.05 GAA and .891 save percentage. He was named the AHL Player of the Week for the week ending on Jan. 2, where he collected a 3-0-0 record, stopped 93 of 98 shots for a .949 save percentage, and posted a 1.34 GAA.

He is the first Condor Rookie of the Month winner since January, 2005 (Yutaka Fukufuji).
