Our veteran goalie Peter Hirsch…

From: Amber

Comments: Our Veteran Goalie “Hirsh” comes out up to 6-8 feet in front of the net. Because of that a lot of the opposing teams goals are put in behind him. Isn’t there a rule or requirement about how far a goalie can go from the net while the opposing team is trying to shoot a goal?
I was at the preseason game and the fist game of the season.

There is no rule about how far a goalie may leave his crease in order to make a save. Typically, goalies will come out of the net farther to cut off the shooter’s angle on long shots. This does leave the team vulnerable if a rebound pops out to another player on the side of the net, however the goalie usually is counting on the defense keeping those players tied up.
