Aces big third period pushes past Bakersfield, 4-2

ANCHORAGE, AK – The Alaska Aces (7-3-0-0, 14pts) scored three times in the third period to take a 4-2 win over the Bakersfield Condors (4-5-1-0, 9pts) at Sullivan Arena Saturday night.

Alaska scored first for the second night in a row as Bryan Miller’s shot from the blue line redirected off a body in front and past Condors netminder Bryan Pitton at the 16:15 mark to give the Aces a 1-0 lead. Bakersfield responded with offensive chances, including two scoring chances for C Parker Stanfield, but could not slip one past Gerald Coleman. The Aces outshot Bakersfield, 14-8.

Early in the second the Condors tied it up when LW Matt Marquardt blasted home his fourth of the season. The goal came just 3:02 into the frame, off assists to C Casey Pierro-Zabotel and D Alain Goulet. Both clubs had their chances over the remainder of the period but nothing more got past the netminders, while the Condors led in shots 12-9 in the frame.

The Aces pulled in front at 5:52 of the third stanza, with LW Scott Howes’ first of the season. But it lasted only 61 seconds, as C Mathew Sisca flicked home a rebound chance to once again tie it up. But D Brandon Gentile sent a shot past Pitton at 9:35 to make it 3-2 Alaska. With less than six minutes left, a rebound deflected off a Condors defenseman and into the Bakersfield net to make it 4-2 Aces.
