Combs tricks Condors in Colorado

LOVELAND, Colo. – Jack Combs recorded a hat trick to pace  the Colorado Eagles (7-6-0-1, 15pts) to a 6-3 victory over the Bakersfield Condors (5-11-1-0, 11pts) Saturday night.

The Condors enjoyed a fast start to the game, putting together multiple scoring chances in the opening period, and outshooting Colorado 13-7. F Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored at 11:27 of the first to give Bakersfield a 1-0 lead. F Jack Combs answered for the Eagles late in the period to tie it up. Both goals were wraparound tallies.

Colorado and Bakersfield exchanged tallies in the middle frame, with F Rhett Gordon and F Riley Nelson lighting the lamp for the Eagles, and F Peter Boyd scoring for the Condors. Boyd’s fourth of the season came on a shorthanded rush for Bakersfield. The second period also saw a tilt between LW Matt Marquardt and Eagles D Gord Burnett. It was 3-2 Colorado after two.

It remained a one-goal game well into the third. But with just under seven minutes left in the game Combs’ second of the night, on an odd-man rush, gave the home team a two-goal lead.  He completed the hat trick with a power play goal at 15:45 of the third. Boyd added a tally in the waning minutes for his first career multiple-goal game. The Eagles added an empty netter to seal the victory.
