Down and out in Colorado

LOVELAND, Colo. – G Kyle Jones turned aside 30 shots from the Bakersfield Condors (5-10-1-0, 11pts)  in a fight-filled 3-0 shutout for the Colorado Eagles (6-6-0-1, 13pts) in front of 5,289 at the Budweiser Events Center Friday night.

The two clubs played a first period that turned nasty before seeing the Eagles take a 1-0 lead. In the middle of the frame, tempers flared when three fights broke out along with a couple  skirmishes assessed as ‘roughing’ in a span of less than two minutes. Colorado F Jack Combs scored with 1:33 left in the period to make it 1-0.

The Eagles extended the lead in the second period when F Aaron Slattengren tucked home a rebound past G Matt Keetley at 10:31. F Adam Chorneyko banged in a loose puck from the doorstep a couple minutes later to make it 3-0.

The Condors could fare no better in the third, as Eagles G Kyle Jones completed his shutout with 13 more saves. Bakersfield dropped the mitts two more times toward the middle of the stanza,  and another mini-line brawl broke out in the final minutes when two more fights occurred. But the Condors couldn’t fight their way back into the game, and were shutout for the first time this season.
