Condors bust the slump, pound Stockton 5-2

STOCKTON, Calif. – Five different players scored for the Bakersfield Condors (6-16-3-0, 15pts) en route to a 5-2 victory over the Stockton Thunder (12-9-1-2, 27pts) at Stockton Arena Sunday evening.

The Condors killed off three Stockton power plays in the opening period and finished the opening twenty minutes scoreless. Bakersfield outshot the Thunder, 15-9. G Matt Keetley, off his relief appearance for the Condors last night, and Stockton G Olivier Roy were both perfect in the opening frame.

The teams combined for five goals in the middle stanza. Stockton F Jesse Fratkin finished an odd-man rush at 2:55 to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Condors F Parker Stanfield scored his first professional goal to tie the game at 1-1, 5:36 into the period, making a great individual move around the Stockton defense and then tucking a shot past Roy. Bakersfield took their first lead of the afternoon, 2-1, at 7:47 when F Ian McKenzie scored his second goal in as many games with a shot that went through traffic and past the glove hand of Roy. Stockton tied it at 2-2 on the power play at 8:38 with Fratkin’s second of the period. Bakersfield jumped back in front at 3-2 with LW Matt Marquardt scoring his ninth of the season at 12:30 of the period with assists to C Mathew Sisca and Stanfield.

In the third, Bakersfield continued their dominance of the shot totals in securing the triumph. They held a 12-4 advantage in the third period (42-19 in the game). C Robby Dee forced a turnover inside the Bakersfield blue line with just over two minutes left in the game, and pushed it ahead for a breakaway and lit the lamp to make it a 4-2 Bakersfield lead. RW Peter Boyd added an empty net tally to seal the deal for the Condors.
