Condors sign D Tyson Gimblett

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors have announced that the team has signed D Tyson Gimblett to a standard player contract. He is expected to play this weekend when the Condors host the Alaska Aces on Friday and Saturday. His twin brother, Jesse, currently leads the Condors in penalty minutes and is third on the team in scoring with 15 points (5g, 10a).

It will be the first time that the Condors lineup has featured twin brothers in Condors history.

“He’s a stay-at-home defenseman who will provide some added toughness to our defensive corps,” said Condors Head Coach Matt O’Dette.

The 6’3″, 212 lb. defenseman joins the Condors from the SPHL’s Augusta Riverhawks where he played eight games, recording one assist, 62 penalty minutes, and was a plus-nine.

Prior to turning professional this season, Gimblett played five seasons of collegiate hockey for the University of Prince Edward Island Panthers from 2006-2011.

The 26-year old defensive defenseman played his junior hockey in the OHL for three teams – the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors, Owen Sound Attack, and Saginaw Spirit – from 2001-2006. His best season came in 2005-06 when he played in 68 games, tallying four goals, and 12 assists for 16 points and 153 penalty minutes.

From Newtonville, ON, Gimblett also spent time in the OPJHL during his junior career for the Cobourg Cougars, St. Michael’s Buzzers, and Georgetown Raiders. His best season in the OPJHL came in 2003-04, recording three goals and eight assists for 11 points to go along with 176 penalty minutes in just 38 games played.
