Condors Weekly: Looking to change their luck on home ice

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors losing streak extended into their weekend jaunt to Colorado. They return to home ice for a pair of games this week, nursing a record of 5-11-1-0 with 11 points, looking to snap a five-game losing skid.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Condors drew close with a F Peter Boyd tally in the second. Stockton added a third period tally to regain the two-goal lead. LW Jesse Gimblett scored for the Condors to pull within one, but the Thunder scored an empty netter to close out the comeback attempt.

Friday, Nov. 18
COLORADO 3 vs. Condors 0

The Eagles opened the scoring late in the first period, and added two in the middle frame en route to a 3-0 victory on Friday night. G Kyle Jones stopped 30 shots for the shutout, while G Matt Keetley made 31 saves in a losing effort for the Condors.

Saturday, Nov. 19
COLORADO 6 vs. Condors 3
Bakersfield opened the scoring on a first period tally by F Casey Pierro-Zabotel, his first of the season. The Eagles responded with a pair of goals, while Condors F Peter Boyd tied it at 2-2 with a shorthanded goal. Colorado regained the lead and Boyd scored again to make it a 5-3 game, only to have the Eagles bury an empty net goal to seal the win.

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • F Peter Boyd has two shorthanded goals already this season. He is tied for the league lead in SHG.
  • BoydBoyd became the fourth player to notch a multi-goal game for Bakersfield when he scored twice on Saturday.
  • C Mathew Sisca leads all rookies with 11 assists.
  • Saturday night was the first time since Oct. 29 the Condors scored a first period goal.
  • Friday’s game featured a season high 61 penalty minutes for the Condors. The game also featured 138 total penalty minutes, also a season high.
  • C Casey Pierro-Zabotel scored his first goal as a Condor on Saturday.
  • Tuesday’s Field Trip Day Game featured a crowd of 6,145 – the second largest of the season for Bakersfield.

Teddy Bear Toss and $1 hot dogs this week!
The Condors return home for two games next week. Tuesday night against Alaska enjoy $1 hot dogs all night long and 1/2 price beer through the first intermission, sponsored by My45, 105.3 La Preciosa, Bud Light and R&D Leather Furniture.

Saturday against Ontario is Teddy Bear Toss Night, sponsored by 29 Eyewitness News, KERN 1180 and Wells Fargo. Bring a new teddy bear to the game and when the Condors score their first goal, throw them onto the ice. The bears will be collected by the United Way of Kern County.
