Condors Weekly: Road trip to Utah on tap

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors wrapped up a three-game holiday weekend with a 1-2-0 record, picking up a 4-2 win over Colorado on home ice last Friday. The Condors own a 9-26-3-1 record with 22 points in the standings.

A three-goal second period turned a 1-1 game in a 4-2 Condors victory Friday night. D Alain Goulet, skating as a forward, scored twice and G Bryan Pitton stopped 29 shots. F Casey Pierro-Zabotel and F Robby Dee also added goals in the Condors victory.

Colorado opened the scoring with a first period goal and an early goal in the second. Bakersfield responded with a tally by D Tyson Gimblett at 5:09, but it’s as close as they got. The Eagles scored a late tally to seal the win.   

Monday, Jan. 16

Colorado 3 vs. CONDORS 1

Bakersfield scored the first goal of the game, with F Tyler Helfrich banging in a rebound out of midair to make it 1-0. Ontario bounced back, however, with three unanswered tallies in the first period. They held off a 15-shot third period from Bakersfield and took the 3-1 victory Monday afternoon.

Keetly returns, Freeman out

The Condors welcomed back G Matt Keetley from Syracuse in the American Hockey League. The goaltender did not play. In other news, leading scorer and rookie sensation RW Scott Freeman was placed on the 21-IR Sunday, and is preparing for minor surgery on a damaged ankle. He is expected to miss approximately a month.

  • F Alex Hudson had his three-game point streak (0g-3a) end Monday.
  • F Evan Trupp had an assist in his Condors debut Monday.
  • F Aaron Lewadniuk had an assist in his first game as a Condor on Friday.
  • D Tyson Gimblett was the eighth Condor to score his first professional goal this season, when he lit the lamp on Saturday.
  • G Matt Keetley has appeared in seven straight games in net.

Toothbrushes and the ZOOperstars next week
After the Condors road trip this week, they return to host three games: Alaska on Wednesday, Jan. 25, and Ontario on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28.

On Friday the first 2,000 kids 12 and under will get a Condors Toothbrush, sponsored by Hot Hits 93.1 and Smileworld Dental. On Saturday the ZOOperstars return to Condorstown, featuring the likes of Squidney Crosby, LeBronco James and more, sponsored by ABC23, 101.5 KGFM and Mercy & Memorial Hospitals.
