Utah edges the Condors, 3-2

CONDORSTOWN, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (19-37-4-3, 45pts) battled back against the Utah Grizzlies (29-30-0-5, 63pts), but fell 3-2 Wednesday night at Rabobank Arena.

Utah scored the first goal of the contest, just 8:36 into the period. D David Strathman beat Condors G Bryan Pitton with his fifth of the season. Utah G Andrew Engelage stopped all seven opening period shots by Bakersfield, while the Grizzlies managed 13 shots on goal.

Bakersfield surged in the second period, outshooting the Grizzlies 15-8 in the period and getting on the board. But not before F Ryan Watson extended the Utah lead at 7:50. F Robby Dee notched his 20th of the season at 15:21 to make it a one-goal game. The Condors led in shots 22-21 through two periods.

The Grizzlies tallied at 6:35 to make it a 3-1 lead in the third. LW C.J. Severyn took advantage of a Condors turnover and notched his fourth of the season to regain the multi-goal lead for the visitors. Less than two minutes later LW Kyle Calder lifted home a rebound for his ninth of the season at 8:26 to keep Bakersfield alive. But the equalizer eluded the Condors, and they fell 3-2.

Saturday night against Las Vegas is the annual Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon, sponsored by KBAK Eyewitness News and KUZZ 107.9. Doors open at 4:45 p.m. for the Condors Alumni Game, while the Condors and Wranglers face off at 7 p.m.
