Condors fall to Grizzlies 3-2 in OT
Condors jersey auction raises $20,000 for M.A.R.E.

Bakersfield, Calif. The Utah Grizzlies (7-3-1-1, 16pts) fought off a late comeback from the Bakersfield Condors (5-7-1-0, 11pts) to earn a 3-2 overtime victory in front of 4,706 fans at Rabobank Arena Saturday night.

F Andrew Ianiero got the Condors on the board less than 4 minutes into the contest. After knocking a Grizzlies defenseman off the puck, Ianiero shouldered his way to loose puck and beat G Andrew Engelage to give the Condors a 1-0 lead. Bakersfield ended the first period with a 12-7 advantage in shots.

The tide turned on Bakersfield in the second period when the Grizzlies struck for their second shorthanded goal of the three game Mark Magnowskiset. F Chris Donovan and C Marcus Carroll led a 2-on-1 rush into the Condors zone, and a mad scramble in front of the net allowed Donovan to pop a loose pu ck over the pile and into the back of the net. C Paul Crowder broke the 1-1 tie with a goal at 17:50. After a loose puck bounced to him on the left side of the net, he slid it past G Josh Tordjman to give Utah their first lead of the game.

The Condors continued to blast away in the third period, but Engelage stifled the Bakersfield offense. That was until Magnowski scored his first professional goal. With a power play and the goalie pulled, Magnowski rifled a shot over the shoulder of Engelage to send the game to overtime. It was Magnowski’s second point of the game and third point in the past two games.

Utah was able to pick up the win when former Stanley Cup Champion D Ric Jackman burried an overtime power play goal to give Utah a 3-2 win. Engelage turned aside 41 saves to earn the victory.
