Condors grind out 2-1 victory over Aces

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – The Bakersfield Condors (19-16-1-0, 39pts) battled through injury and penalties and G Brian Stewart finished with 46 saves for a 2-1 victory over the Alaska Aces (21-11-2-0, 44pts) in front of 6,048 fans at Rabobank Arena on Friday Night.

The Condors drew first blood on an early power play, with a tally by Brian StewartF Bobby Robins at 2:01 of the opening frame. The Condors had a goal disallowed just minutes later when it was ruled C Slava Trukhno kicked in the puck. The first period came to an early break when a pane of glass shattered after a hit on Condors LW J.D. Corbin with just over five minutes remaining. Corbin did not return in the game. When play resumed the Aces tied it up. D Chad Anderson tucked in a power play tally at 17:16 to make it 1-1 after one.

In the second, Bakersfield picked up the physical play and started to seize back the momentum. The two clubs managed to combine for just 14 shots on goal in the period, but the Condors pushed back in front. D Evan Stoflet notched his fourth of the season, sending a wrister past Alaska G Gerald Coleman at 17:27. The Condors lost another player a minute later when RW Bobby Robins was ejected for an illegal hit. The period ended 2-1 Condors.

Bakersfield held onto the lead in the final frame, despite surrendering 20 shots on goal and taking 25 minutes in penalties in the third period as well. Stewart was strong time and again, and finished the night with 46 saves for his first win as a Condor.
