Condors take down Reign 3-1

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. The Bakersfield Condors (36-25-2-1, 75pts) scored twice in the second and secured the victory with one in the third to defeat the Ontario Reign (23-36-2-4, 52pts) 3-1 in front of 6,331 fans at Rabobank Arena Friday night. The Condors are now tied for first in the Pacific Division and second in the conference, following a Las Vegas 4-1 loss to Alaska.

The Condors and Reign skated to a scoreless tie in the first period. Bakersfield put 14 shots on G Jase Weslosky while the Reign put up seven shots on Condors G Brian Stewart, but neither club could score.

Bakersfield drew first blood with a power play tally just 3:15 into the Stephane Gouletmiddle stanza. RW Bobby Robins hammered in a rebound for his 12th of the season. LW Guillaume Lefebvre picked up an assist on the goal, as both players ran their point streaks to seven games. RW Stephane Goulet scored his 23rd of the season on a breakaway at 11:44 to make it 2-0. Ontario, who did not get a shot for the first minutes of the frame, got on the board with a redirection at 13:30 to make it 2-1.

 

D Phil Paquet gave the Condors some breathing room with his third of the season at 7:18 of the final frame, making it 3-1. Stewart did the rest, stopping 13 shots in the third period alone, and 23 in the game for his seventh straight win.
