Condors thump the Wranglers 5-2

LAS VEGAS – Newcomer LW J.D. Corbin scored twice and added an assist to lead the Bakersfield Condors to a 5-2 preseason win over the Las Vegas Wranglers at Orleans Arena Thursday night. The same two clubs will meet Saturday night at Rabobank Arena in the preseason finale.

Neither team lit the lamp in the opening frame, and Las Vegas held the 9-7 lead in shots. G Peter Hirsch got the start in net for the Condors and went the distance, while the Wranglers played both of their goaltenders in the game, electing to start G Michael Ouzas. One first period highlight was a tilt between Condors LW Bobby Robins and Vegas F Michael Findorff.

The Condors took the lead early in the second frame when Las Vegas native C Adam Naglich scored the first goal of the Condors preseason at 7:31. Corbin scored Bakersfield’s second of the game at 10:14, hammering home a smooth behind the back blind centering feed from F Mika Suoraniemi. Corbin notched his second of the night on a shorthanded breakaway with just 37 seconds left in the period.

D Erik Burgdoerfer extended the lead in the third, sending a wrister to the top right corner over G Scott Darling 4:10 into the period. Moments later F Jean-Marc Beaudoin set up RW Erick Lizon for a tally to make it 5-0. The Wranglers touched up Hirsch for a pair of third period goals, but the Condors netminder picked up the win with a 27-save effort. In other fisticuffs action, Condors F Braden Walls dropped the gloves with Vegas RW Dan Bertram early in the third.
