Condors Weekly: Condors run winning streak to 8 straight

Bakersfield, Calif. The Condors continued their winning ways, defeating Alaska once and the Ontario Reign twice to push their winning streak to eight straight games. Bakersfield is now 37-25-2-1 this season, and their 77 points places them third in the Western Conference. The Condors are one point behind Stockton, with a game in hand, while Alaska leads the Conference with 85 points.

CONDORS 4 vs. Alaska 3

The Condors surrendered two goals in the first 11:21 of the opening period, but came storming back with goals from F Michael Gergen and C Adam Naglich 1:20 apart to tie the game at 2-2 after the first period. Gergen scored his second of the night to kick off the middle stanza, and D Tyler Gotto netted the game winner with less than five minutes left in the contest, breaking a 3-3 tie. G Brian Stewart made 32 saves to earn the win.

 

Friday, March 18

CONDORS 3 vs. Ontario 1

The first goal of the game wasn’t scored until 3:03 of the second period, when F Bobby Robins knocked home a power play goal to put the Condors up 1-0. RW Stephane Goulet and LW James McEwan traded goals mid-way through the period, which ended with Bakersfield leading 2-1. D Phil Paquet netted his first goal as a Condor 7:18 into the third, and the Condors secured a 3-1 win. The victory marked the seventh straight for both G Brian Stewart and the Condors.

CONDORS 5 vs. Ontario 2

Special teams ruled the day for Bakersfield, as the Condors scored twice on the power play and twice shorthanded en route to a 5-2 victory. F Slava Trukhno scored twice, picking up the Condors first goal on the power play to tie the game at one, and the closing goal to put the game out of reach. G Jim Watt made his first start for Bakersfield, stopping 22 shots for his first professional win, while C Joel Broda added 2 goals as well. The win put Bakersfield in first place in the Pacific Division. Stockton played on Sunday to recapture the lead with a victory over Idaho.

 

 

PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES:

  • The Condors have now won eight straight games, moving from 6th in the conference to just one point out of 2nd.
  • G Brian Stewart has won 7 straight starts, which places him in a tie for second in franchise history for most consecutive wins. The Condors mark is 9 straight, set in 2002-03 by Kevin St. Pierre.
  • LW Guillaume Lefebvre now has an 8 game point streak, picking up 11 points (4g-7a) during that span. It is the longest point streak of the season for the Condors.
  • F Bobby Robins saw his 7 game point streak end on Saturday. He had 8 points (3g-5a) during his seven game run.
  • The Condors have not lost a Friday night home game this year, collecting an 11-0-0 record on the season. Bakersfield plays its final Friday home game of the regular season this week.
  • The Condors have now won 10 of their last 11 games at home, including sweeps in each of their last three home weekends.

ON THE DOCKET:

The 11th annual Tip-A-Condor dinner takes place tonight at fishlips in downtown Bakersfield. The event turns Condors players into waiters and entertainers for the night, in an effort to collect tips for charity. All the proceeds will fishlipsbenefit the Kern County Shrine Club, which facilitates donations to other local organizations and in particular, the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

The final three games of a nine-game home stand continue on Wednesday as the Victoria Salmon Kings come to town for Blood Drive Night, sponsored by My 45 and KUZZ 107.9. Anyone who has donated blood at Houchin Blood Bank this month can receive $1.00 admission to the game by presenting their Houchin voucher at the box office.

 

On Friday, the Wranglers play their first of two straight games with Sillybandz Giveaway, courtesy of 98.5 The Fox. The first 2,000 children 12 and under will receive a package of Condors Sillybandz. It is also the final T.H.I.N.K. Night, where students can earn free admission to the game through exceptional school performance, sponsored by Mercy and Memorial Hospitals, Wells Fargo, and Diamond Technologies.

 

The weekend closes with an appearance from Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants on Saturday, sponsored by Bright House Networks, 101.5 KGFM, and Farmers Insurance. It is also a Bright House Networks Family Night, where Bright House subscribers can receive $7.00 terrace admission by presenting their cable bill or envelope.
